CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda Pilot
overall

Summary
With 193 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,702 CAD, 28.5% of 2020 Honda Pilot listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda Pilot 4.7 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda Pilot is a versatile, comfortable three-row SUV that still has a lot to offer families who want space and practicality. It stands out for its tons of cargo space, an adult-friendly third row, and an impressive list of standard safety features. It also earns praise for its powerful engine, while owners commonly appreciate its spacious interior, responsive handling, and overall comfort.
At the same time, the Pilot no longer leads the midsize three-row crossover pack the way it once did, as several rivals have caught up to it and, in some cases, surpassed it. Its biggest drawbacks are its unintuitive technology and interior materials that feel cheap. Some owners also note that it is not the best choice for towing and that city fuel consumption can be higher than in other vehicles.

Truly next level, crazy fast and responsive SUV for what it is, did not expect to be so agile and fast. Throttle response and braking are unbelievable again, for something this big. Corners amazing, all while getting great gas mileage. This is the Black Edition, it’s better than anything else in its class, period.

Perfect size SUV. I love everything about it. The hands free options are amazing. The fact that you dont have a key switch, was a little getting use too. Drives smoothly. Great on gas. Very comfortable interior.

Great value with awesome upgrades! Wish it had the right rear view mirror camera like our 2015 Honda Accord. Much better bang for my buck in gas mpg than the other vehicles we considered like the Lexus 460 and Toyota Highlander.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Honda Pilot earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, responsive handling, and overall comfort, and they also value its strong performance and practical family-friendly layout. The main trade-offs are its unintuitive technology and interior materials that feel cheap. It suits you best if you want a versatile three-row SUV with lots of cargo space and an adult-friendly third row. With 29.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still decent market choice if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Honda Pilot reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as dependable in everyday use, with strong satisfaction around performance, comfort, and fuel efficiency. The review summary also points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially if you value spaciousness and responsive handling. The Pilot’s refined, comfortable driving character supports that impression of durability and easy ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is more about living with its quirks and running costs than worrying about basic dependability.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Pilot?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is a solid value in Canada with standard all-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, remote start, heated front seats, push-button start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, power locks, and power windows with a one-touch driver’s window. The EX adds a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, LED fog lights, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, roof rails, and a power moonroof. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, second-row outboard heated seats and in-door sunshades, a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, and on-board navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Touring adds 20-inch wheels, blue ambient interior lighting, an upgraded stereo, a panoramic sunroof in seven-seat configuration, heated and ventilated front seats, auto on-off LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and more on-board tech. The Black Edition is based on the Touring and adds unique black-painted wheels, black exterior paint, black grille and accents, and red interior lighting.
- Powertrain: A 3.5-litre V6 powers every trim and makes 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Standard all-wheel drive is included, and a front-wheel drive powertrain is not offered in Canada. The 6-speed automatic is used on LX, EX, and EX-L trims, while the Touring and Black Edition get a 9-speed automatic that provides more refined acceleration and should help fuel efficiency.
- Safety package: HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and lane-departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard. Optional equipment includes front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: All trims get Honda’s Display Audio 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It uses a 215-watt, 7-speaker stereo with a subwoofer, plus Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port on the base trim. SiriusXM satellite radio is added from the EX-L, while navigation comes on the EX-L and a rear entertainment system, Wi-Fi hotspot, upgraded 590-watt, 11-speaker premium audio system, and wireless charging pad come on the Touring and Black Edition.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates versions with the 6-speed automatic at 13.0 L/100 km in city driving, 9.3 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.3 L/100 km combined. With the 9-speed automatic, those figures improve to 12.4 L/100 km city, 9.3 L/100 km highway, and 11.0 L/100 km combined.
Which 2020 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the value play if you want the essentials without stretching your budget. You still get standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the full HondaSensing safety suite, so it covers the basics well.
- EX: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades like a power driver’s seat, roof rails, fog lights, and a moonroof. It makes sense if you want a better-equipped Pilot without jumping too far in price.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather, a power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, sunshades, navigation, and SiriusXM. It strikes the strongest balance of comfort and convenience.
- Touring: Choose this if you want the more premium family-hauler experience, with the upgraded stereo, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and extra tech. It is the right pick if you’ll use the added features often.
- Black Edition: This is the style-led top trim, based on the Touring, with blacked-out exterior details and red interior lighting. It suits you if you want the most distinctive appearance and are willing to pay for it.
HondaSensing is standard across the range, so you do not need to move up trims for the core safety package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Pilot?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 198 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.45% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $29,193 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $29,666 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,128 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more price pressure than they would have a year ago. If you buy now, you are entering at a lower average price point than recent owners did, which can help soften depreciation risk. The Pilot’s broad family appeal and strong owner satisfaction should still support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda Pilot safe?
The Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the best crash test score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and lane-departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard. Optional front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert add extra convenience and awareness.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.45% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers strong family utility, standard safety tech, and a practical three-row layout.
Consider the 2021 if:
