How much does the 2020 Ford Escape cost?

Is the 2020 Ford Escape a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Ford Escape earns a 4.42/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked small SUV with broad appeal.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth driving experience, numerous features, safety technology, acceleration, and comfort. The Escape is also framed as a high-tech, handsome, and surprisingly athletic compact crossover, which fits buyers who want something more polished than basic transportation.

The main trade-offs are limited cargo space, some tightness for taller occupants, a noisy engine under acceleration, and mixed feedback on the gearshift design and wireless charging compatibility.

With a moderate market verdict and a mix of practical strengths and refinement, it suits you best if you want a modern, well-rounded small SUV rather than a purely utilitarian one. Good and great deals account for 27.8% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its smooth driving experience, safety technology, comfort, and overall feature content. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for routine commuting and family duty.

Ford also gives the Escape a strong safety and technology foundation, which supports confidence in long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright reliability and more about making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been cared for properly and suits your space needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Escape?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with a 4.2-inch instrument-panel screen, a 4.2-inch centre screen, manually adjustable front seats, and a full suite of driver-assistance features, while the SE adds an 8-inch Sync 3 screen, automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat. CarGurus recommends the SE because it delivers the best value.
• Powertrain: The Escape offers four engine options, including a 180-horsepower three-cylinder, a 250-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder, a 198-horsepower hybrid setup, and a plug-in hybrid option on select trims. The turbo engine provides brisk acceleration, while the hybrid is the efficiency leader.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The base trim already gets a full suite of driver-assistance features.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses a 4.2-inch screen, while the SE upgrades to an 8-inch Sync 3 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The latest Sync system also supports over-the-air updates.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid returns 5.4 L/100 km city, 6.3 highway, and 5.8 combined with FWD, or 5.5 city, 6.4 highway, and 5.9 combined with AWD. The 1.5-litre turbo engine returns 8.6/7.1/7.9 combined, or 8.9/7.6/8.3 with AWD, while the 2.0-litre turbo with AWD returns 10.4/7.5/9.1.

Which 2020 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Escape is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics plus FordPass Connect, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and a full suite of driver-assistance features. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price, but the small screens and simpler cabin equipment make it feel more basic than the higher trims.
• SE: This is the best-value trim. It adds the 8-inch Sync 3 touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat, which makes it the sweet spot for most shoppers.
• SEL: This trim adds fog lamps, black roof racks, 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, memory for the driver’s seat, synthetic upholstery, sport bucket seats, and a heated steering wheel. It suits you if you want more convenience and a richer cabin.
• Titanium: This is the most premium version, with unique 19-inch wheels, LED fog lamps, acoustic-laminated glass, a dual-panel moonroof, wood paneling, a two-tone leather interior, premium audio, and a 6-way power front passenger seat. It is the right pick if you want the most upscale Escape experience.

The base S includes the full suite of driver-assistance features, while the rest of the lineup builds on that foundation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Escape?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 540 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.91% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,604 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $17,604 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,185 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Escape has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you are buying now and planning to sell later. If prices stabilise, future sellers may benefit from a smaller remaining drop than the one seen over the past year.

The trim mix and broad appeal should help keep demand steady, especially for well-equipped versions that match what shoppers want in a compact SUV. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape safe?

The 2020 Ford Escape earned the best overall score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in all phases of testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Escape also comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, traction control, and a tire-pressure-monitoring system.

That standard safety content is a major strength, especially because features that are often optional on rivals are included here. The main caveat is that the safety story is strongest when you choose a trim and configuration that gives you the equipment you want, but the core driver-assistance package is already well covered.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.91% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as a redesigned, high-tech, handsome, and surprisingly athletic compact crossover with multiple powertrain options and standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want a more polished small SUV with strong safety content, useful technology, and a broad trim and powertrain spread, the 2020 Escape is the primary year to target. If your priority is stretching your budget, you should focus on well-priced SE listings, since that trim delivers the best mix of equipment and value.
