Is the 2020 Dodge Charger a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.9/5, and the expert rating is 8.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the Charger’s powerful performance, smooth ride and handling, and spacious, comfortable cabin. The user feedback also highlights its eye-catching design and family-friendly practicality, which fits the car’s four-door, five-passenger layout.

The main trade-offs are that lower trims can feel underwhelming compared with the higher-performance versions, and some buyers may want more luxury features. That matters most if you want the Charger as a daily driver rather than a performance-first sedan.

The expert assessment also supports that sense of dependability by describing the Charger as a usable, well-rounded sedan with broad capability.

If you want a used Charger, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that upkeep and fuel costs can be higher than you’d expect from a mainstream sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Charger?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, remote start, push-button start, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, a Wi-Fi hot spot, an 8.4-inch infotainment screen, and standard blind-spot monitoring. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a more pronounced lower front spoiler, a rear trunk lip spoiler, and a hood scoop, while the higher trims add more performance and comfort equipment.
• Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, with rear-wheel drive or available AWD. The R/T adds a 5.7-litre Hemi V8, the Scat Pack uses a 6.4-litre Hemi V8, and the SRT Hellcat brings a supercharged 6.2-litre V8.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beams. Lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and rain-sensing wipers are optional.
• Infotainment: All trims use an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, standard Apple CarPlay, and standard Android Auto. The system also supports available satellite radio, available HD radio, and available navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 10.3 L/100 km combined. The AWD V6 returns 11.0 L/100 km combined, the R/T returns 12.3 L/100 km combined, and the Hellcat Widebody returns 15.6 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2020 Dodge Charger is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, Scat Pack, and SRT Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Charger’s core appeal: a roomy cabin, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a solid list of convenience and safety features. It suits you best if you want the Charger shape and space without chasing performance.
• GT: The GT adds more visual presence with 20-inch wheels, a spoiler, and a hood scoop, plus the same V6 foundation. It is the better pick if you want a more aggressive look without stepping up to V8 power.
• R/T: The R/T is the first trim that really leans into the Charger’s muscle-car character thanks to its 5.7-litre V8, upgraded suspension, and active exhaust. This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest balance of performance and price.
• Scat Pack: The Scat Pack brings a 6.4-litre V8, Brembo brakes, and launch assist, making it the clear step-up for serious performance buyers. Choose this if you want the most compelling high-horsepower bargain in the lineup.
• SRT Hellcat: The Hellcat is the top-end choice, with the largest engine, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and the widebody kit. It is for you if outright performance matters more than running costs.

Standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring and the mandated back-up camera on the SXT, while more advanced driver-assistance features are also standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Charger?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 60 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.74% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,561 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Dodge Charger’s resale value?

The current average of $27,328 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,992 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favourable for buyers, which can make resale a bit more challenging for sellers in the near term. If you own one, you may need to price competitively to stand out against the current inventory. On the other hand, the Charger’s broad appeal and performance image can still help it attract attention from shoppers who want something distinctive.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Dodge Charger safe?

The Charger’s crash prevention technology earned the highest score of Superior.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beams. Lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and rain-sensing wipers are optional.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard on every version, so you should check the equipment list carefully before you buy.

Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong performance with four-door practicality and broad trim choice.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $28,829 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,328 CAD average.
• It adds a new track-ready variant.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want the better price and a wide range of trims with strong performance and practicality. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model-year update and a track-focused option, the 2021 is the better alternative.
