CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Audi Q7
overall

Summary
With 47 currently listed for sale near Newmarket, ON and an average price of $33,594.00 CAD, 36.2% of 2020 Audi Q7s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Audi Q7 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Audi Q7 stands out as a refreshed midsize luxury SUV that gets a thorough update to its styling, interior, powertrain and technology. Those changes are presented as bringing it in line with other high-end Audi models and helping it stay competitive in its class. For buyers, that means the Q7’s appeal is not just its badge or size, but the sense that Audi has sharpened the whole package rather than focusing on one area alone.
On the road, the 2020 Audi Q7 is described as fun to drive and powered by a strong engine, which gives it a more engaging character than many family-oriented SUVs. It is also positioned as a practical road-trip companion, having been tested on a 1,600-kilometre family journey. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the third row is cramped and cargo space is limited, so shoppers who need maximum passenger or luggage room may find those shortcomings hard to ignore.
Owner feedback reinforces the Q7’s upscale feel, with praise for its luxurious features, smooth and quiet ride, comfort, safety features and driveability, including in snowy conditions. The main criticisms are that it can feel overpriced and that storage options are inadequate, which fits with the test-drive impression that this is a polished luxury SUV with some real-world practicality limits.

In a very short amount of time with this car, it has shown me what a good luxury SUV should and can feel like. Drive is fantastic, interior is no fuss and well put together, outside of the lack of useful "pocket/hidden" storage, it is absolutely a delight to own.

Excellent safety features and a solid vehicle for the ride. You get what you pay for .My prior one was 3 years old and as solid as when it was new. Storage in the front center counsel could be better for women who have purses but otherwise fit/finish and quality shine through. Extended Lexus SUV and Volvo C 90 are close competitors but hate the Lexus front end ( aesthetics ) and Volvo is a box.

I have owned 3 of the Q7s and enjoy the comfort, driveability, and is great in the snow. Other models are the Lexus, which is boring; Honda Pilot not as luxurious and the Lincoln Navigator which is a tank.

There are 84 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2020 Audi Q7 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Audi Q7 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth and quiet ride, comfort, safety features, and driveability. The Q7 also comes across as a strong fit if you want a family-friendly luxury SUV that feels polished on the road and capable in winter conditions.
The main trade-offs are its cramped third row and limited cargo space, and the expert review also notes that some of the driver-assistance tech can be aggravating in real-world use. Even so, the Q7’s refreshed styling, interior, powertrain, and technology help it feel competitive in the midsize luxury SUV segment.
With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a reasonable chance of finding a well-priced example.
Is the 2020 Audi Q7 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with a smooth, quiet ride and strong comfort, and many reviewers say they feel confident in its safety features and winter drivability. The expert road test also reinforces that impression by describing the Q7 as well-rounded, with a strong engine and good fuel efficiency for the class.
Audi’s mild-hybrid system is described as operating transparently, and the road test notes that the Q7 remained composed and easy to live with over a long trip. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether you can live with the Q7’s packaging compromises and premium-SUV running costs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Audi Q7?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Q7 comes in Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik trim levels. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more, since the higher trims add more of the upscale equipment and technology that define this SUV.
- Powertrain: You’ll see 45 TFSI versions with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder, 55 TFSI versions with a mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-litre V6, and an SQ7 with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8. The 55 TFSI is the one highlighted in the road test, and it pairs strong acceleration with fuel-saving mild-hybrid assistance.
- Safety package: Audi’s Driver Assistance Package includes Emergency Assist, Turn Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Assist with adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assistance, and lane-centring assistance. Some of these features are optional rather than standard, so you’ll want to confirm exactly what the used vehicle has.
- Infotainment: The Q7 uses a 10.1-inch upper touchscreen and an 8.6-inch lower touchscreen, along with natural voice recognition, handwriting recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, and Audi Connect subscription services.
- Fuel efficiency: The 55 TFSI is rated at 12.0 L/100 km combined, and the road test recorded 11.2 L/100 km on a trip and 13.0 L/100 km on a local fuel-testing loop.
Which 2020 Audi Q7 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Audi Q7 is offered in 3 trim levels: Komfort, Progressiv, Technik.
Here's the short version:
- Komfort: This is the entry point, but it’s the trim most likely to feel stripped back relative to the Q7’s luxury mission. If you want the lowest starting point, it gets you into the model, but you should check carefully for the equipment you care about.
- Progressiv: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it should give you a better balance of equipment and price than the base model, without pushing you all the way to the most expensive version.
- Technik: This is the one to target if you want the most complete Q7 experience. The road test vehicle was a Technik, and it brought features such as adaptive air suspension, a full-colour head-up display, dual-pane acoustic side window glass, and standard 21-inch wheels.
The safety content also notes that the Q7’s HD Matrix LED headlights are rated poor by IIHS, which is worth checking when you compare equipment and condition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Audi Q7?
The market looks moderate for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 84 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.57% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $33,403 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Audi Q7's resale value?
The current average of $33,415 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,035 CAD.
That price drop suggests the Q7 has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer market than owners saw a year ago. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to the earlier average. The current pricing also hints that depreciation has already done some of the heavy lifting, which can help if you plan to hold the SUV for a few years before reselling.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Audi Q7 safe?
The 2020 Audi Q7 earns Top Safety Pick+ recognition from IIHS, but its HD Matrix LED headlights are rated poor.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Audi’s Driver Assistance Package includes Emergency Assist, Turn Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Assist with adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assistance, and lane-centring assistance. Those systems add meaningful capability, but the road test also found the traffic-sign recognition and lane-assist behaviour frustrating in practice.
The poor headlight assessment is the main caveat to keep in mind, especially if you do a lot of night driving. If you’re comparing used examples, pay close attention to the lighting equipment and make sure the safety tech works the way you expect.
Should I buy a 2020 Audi Q7 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 update brings refreshed styling, interior, powertrain, and technology that keep the Q7 competitive in its class.
The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of this Q7 generation, the 2020 model is the one to focus on because it combines the refresh with strong owner satisfaction and a more favourable used-market price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may still want to compare nearby years, but the 2020’s updated tech and strong road manners make it the more compelling pick for most shoppers.
