CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Kia Soul
Summary
With 63 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,069 CAD, 36.5% of 2019 Kia Soul listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Kia Soul 3.86 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Kia Soul stands out because it keeps the model’s familiar boxy shape while making the package feel more polished and practical. Kia describes the second-generation Soul as looking neater than before, with smoother sides, a higher front grille, and more balanced proportions that make it seem less like a tall hatchback and more like a scaled-down SUV. It also gained a slightly longer, wider, and stiffer chassis, along with a tailgate that opened six centimetres higher for easier cargo access. That cargo area measured 532 litres, and the cabin was upgraded with more circular design elements and extra soft-touch materials for a more upscale feel.
For 2019, the Soul added a backup camera and automatic headlights. In this generation, the standard 1.6-litre engine made 130 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque, while the available 2.0-litre engine made 164 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. The model also offered a mix of useful equipment across trims, including Bluetooth, heated front seats, roof rails, keyless entry, cruise control, a rear-view camera, and leather upholstery depending on version. That combination of space, personality, and value is a big part of the Soul’s appeal, though the buying guide also notes that earlier models were slow and that reliability concerns exist in the broader Soul line.

Possibly the worst car I have ever owned. Kia gave me PTSD, I really wouldn't recommend it, please do more research on recalls and engine problems, cause you might lose all of your money the moment you drive it out of the dealership.

Reviewed a 2019 Kia Soul on Aug 29, 2025
I purchased a Kia Soul and was told it had not been in an accident and was in good condition. Unfortunately, after purchasing, I discovered that was not the case at all. When I took it in for inspection, I found: The hood latch was damaged, suggesting it had likely been in an accident. The oil pan was damaged. The tires needed to be replaced. The brakes also needed replacement. Several other issues that were not disclosed. Because of all this, I now have to spend around $1,000 more on top of what I already paid for the car just to get it safe and roadworthy. This has been extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially since I trusted the seller’s word that the car was accident-free and in good shape. Pros: Kia Soul itself is roomy, comfortable, and economical. Cons: Vehicle condition was misrepresented. Significant repair costs not disclosed. Trust and transparency were lacking. Bottom line: If you are considering buying a used Kia Soul (or any used car), make sure you get a full inspection before purchase and don’t rely solely on what the seller tells you or a quick prepurchase inspection like I did. My experience was that I ended up with costly repairs and a car that was not what was promised.

The Kia Soul has a style of its own, with lots of interior space. It drives well absorbing road imperfections and providing a quiet ride. Even the base model has all the accessories you need in a car and its 1.6 motor and multispeed automatic gives surprisingly brisk performance. Add to this the generous warranty and I am very happy with the choice.

How much does the 2019 Kia Soul cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,075 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $13,032 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $15,511 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,360 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.87% |
Prices have softened 14.87% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 189 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice if you want to compare condition, mileage, and equipment.
Is the 2019 Kia Soul a good car?
The 2019 Kia Soul is a solid fit if you want a practical small vehicle with personality, and its 3.86/5 user rating reflects that mix of strengths and compromises. Owners most often praise the roomy interior, smooth and quiet ride, and strong value for the money, while the model’s use-case appeal is strongest if you want everyday practicality in a compact package with a bit more character than a typical hatchback. The market also shows 29.1% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile examples to find.
Is the 2019 Kia Soul reliable?
The 2019 Kia Soul stands out because it keeps the model’s familiar boxy shape while making the package feel more polished and practical. Owners do describe it as smooth and quiet, and the broader feedback points to a car that can feel dependable in daily use when you find a well-kept example. At the same time, used buyers should be careful about condition and maintenance history, because long-term ownership risk rises quickly if the car has been poorly maintained or repaired after a rough previous life.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Kia Soul?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 189 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.87% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,032 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Kia Soul's resale value?
The current average of $13,075 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,360 CAD.
That price movement suggests the 2019 Soul has already absorbed a meaningful chunk of its depreciation. For a future seller, that can be a mixed blessing: you may not see rapid value growth, but the car’s current pricing also means the market has likely already adjusted to its age and segment position. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain it well, you should be in a better position to protect value than a neglected example.
Should I buy a 2019 Kia Soul or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.87% compared with last year.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $15,194 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,075 CAD average.
- It adds a more modern, refined take on the Soul’s practical formula.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2019 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition. Consider the 2020 if you want to spend more for a newer take on the same roomy, distinctive idea.
