Is the 2018 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 4.8/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the spacious interior, safety features, and smooth driving experience, and many also like the comfortable seating and user-friendly technology. For you, that makes the Forester a sensible fit if you want a practical compact SUV with everyday usefulness, strong visibility, and all-weather confidence. Is the 2018 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the Forester’s safety, comfort, and smooth day-to-day use. That said, some owners mention sluggish power and minor issues such as window controls and initial vehicle condition, so a careful inspection still matters. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the overall reputation and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained properly.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 256 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.57% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,588 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $16,588 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,416 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Forester has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. If you buy at the current average, your resale outlook will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. A well-kept example should still appeal to shoppers who want a practical SUV with strong everyday usability.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2018 Forester is a strong choice if you want a practical, well-liked compact SUV and you value current pricing that has eased from last year. If you are price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a lower-priced example offers similar space and usability for less money.

How does the 2018 Subaru Forester compare to the 2018 Honda CR-V?

The Forester is the lower-priced option here, while the CR-V offers a much larger pool of listings. If you want to spend less and still get a practical compact SUV, the Forester has the edge; if you want more inventory to choose from, the CR-V gives you more shopping flexibility.
