Why it stands out
The 2018 Kia Soul stands out because it blends quirky styling with real practicality. Kia’s buying guide describes the Soul as a subcompact hatchback with a boxy, distinctive shape, and says it helped shift the brand’s image towards something more appealing while still value-conscious. That same guide also notes that the Soul was well-made, affordable, and funky enough to stand out without going as far into oddball territory as some of its boxy rivals. Owners’ comments reinforce that appeal, with many praising its reliability, value, and enjoyable style.
For 2018, the Soul was part of the second generation, which kept the original formula but made it look neater and more SUV-like. The guide says the body had smoother sides, a higher front grille, and more balanced proportions, while the chassis was slightly longer, wider, and stiffer. It also points to a quieter cabin, suspension upgrades, and a tailgate that opened six centimetres higher for easier cargo access. Cargo space was listed at 532 litres, and the interior gained more soft-touch materials and circular design details that gave it a more upscale feel. In Canada, the 2018 model lost its manual transmission as well as the base configuration it came with, and forward emergency braking and adaptive cruise control became optional.
What makes the 2018 Soul especially appealing is that it offers a lot of equipment and personality without losing its everyday usefulness. The guide notes standard Bluetooth on the base model, heated front seats on the EX, and a rear-view camera on the SX, along with available features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. At the same time, it is not perfect: the guide says earlier models are slow, and owners of the 2018 Soul mentioned limited space between the accelerator and brake pedals and the absence of a spare tyre. Even so, for buyers who want something practical, distinctive, and good value, the 2018 Kia Soul has a strong case.

Its a great car for the price! However, there could be more space between the accelerator and brake pedals, and some features that work automatically (for safetys sake) in other cars do not on this car.

I loved it but its missing a spare tire and I opted for an SUV with more comfort. I do love the style but it is a small car.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,635 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $11,429 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $13,378 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,331 CAD |

Is the 2018 Kia Soul a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Kia Soul earns a 4.67/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability and great value for the price, and many also highlight its enjoyable style and features. That fits the Soul’s role as a practical subcompact hatchback with quirky styling, useful packaging, and a personality that still feels value-conscious. With 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a well-priced example.
Is the 2018 Kia Soul reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to reliability and dependable day-to-day use, with comments that suggest this is a car many people feel comfortable counting on. The same feedback highlights good value and a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, which matters if you want a used car that can serve you well over the long term. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model’s appeal and more about checking that a specific example has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Kia Soul?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 129 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.72% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $11,429 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Kia Soul's resale value?
The current average of $11,635 CAD sits slightly below last year's $13,331 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Soul is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can make it easier for you to buy well but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you own one, the recent price decline means the market is valuing this model a bit more cautiously than it did a year ago. Even so, the Soul’s practical packaging and strong owner satisfaction help support steady demand from shoppers who want something distinctive and useful.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Kia Soul or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.72% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Kia Soul makes sense if you want a practical, characterful used hatchback with strong owner approval and a market that currently favours careful shoppers. If your priority is getting the best possible value, the 2018 is a sensible primary target; if you are especially price-sensitive, you should also compare nearby model years to see whether a lower-priced example offers similar equipment and condition.
