Is the 2018 Hyundai Sonata a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Hyundai Sonata earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. You’ll see recurring praise for its reliability, value, comfort, spacious interior, and smooth ride. That fits well if you want a roomy, well-equipped midsize sedan for everyday driving rather than something sporty. Is the 2018 Hyundai Sonata reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights reliability as one of the Sonata’s strengths, alongside comfort and value. Drivers also describe it as smooth and easy to live with, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable daily driver when you find a well-kept example. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained properly and inspected carefully before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Hyundai Sonata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 124 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $12,516 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

The current average of $12,678 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,431 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Sonata has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now but less ideal if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the softer market means you may need to price competitively to stand out. On the other hand, the model’s value-focused reputation and broad appeal can still help keep demand steady among shoppers looking for a comfortable, well-equipped sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2018 Sonata makes the most sense if you want a comfortable, feature-rich midsize sedan and you’re focused on value. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby year with a lower asking price may be worth a look, but the 2018 is the better all-around pick when you want a strong mix of equipment, comfort, and market availability.
