CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Acura TLX
overall

Summary
With 54 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,895 CAD, 33.3% of 2018 Acura TLX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Acura TLX 4.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.8 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Acura TLX stands out as a refined, sporty entry in the luxury sedan segment. Acura describes it as its answer to the BMW 3 Series, and for 2018 it received a slight refresh along with a sporty new package. The model’s appeal lies in its competent performance, redesigned face, faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions and extra standard safety, all of which were aimed at making it more competitive with buyers who may have overlooked it before.
What makes the 2018 TLX especially distinctive is the sporty new A-Spec package, which Acura highlights as the real winner for the year. That said, owner feedback suggests the car’s strengths are balanced by a few drawbacks: people praise its luxury features, smooth performance, stylish design, powerful V6 engine and comfortable interior, but some find the technology package overly complex and the price tag high.

I absolutely love my TLX!! So I was pretty adamant about getting into a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Sport. I test drove it, was not a fan. So I decided to look at something comparable. Honestly, the Acura was far superior. Both in looks, performance (it’s a V6) so it’s got quite a punch, yet it drives so smooth. I love my car! Not sure I’ll ever own anything but Acura from now on!!

This is my second TLX. While I love driving in luxury, I refuse to pay over $50,000 for a vehicle. This car is fantastic all around. The interior is stylish and rich, while the exterior is impressively sporty. The hidden gem is the engine and the ride. You will not be disappointed with this car!

Is the 2018 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10. Owners consistently praise the luxury features, smooth performance, stylish design, powerful V6 engine and comfortable interior. For you, that means it fits best if you want a refined luxury sedan with a sporty edge and strong everyday comfort. With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a decent amount of market value to consider.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the car’s luxury features, smooth performance and comfortable interior. The expert assessment also supports that impression by highlighting Honda build quality and a well-mannered, competent character. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is more about the technology and braking behaviour than basic durability.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base TLX FWD gives you 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, heated sports seats with faux leather, P-AWS and Bluetooth, while higher trims add leather, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors, a surround-view camera and more visual upgrades. The A-Spec package is the standout if you want the sportiest look and chassis tuning.
- Powertrain: You can shop the 2.4-litre four-cylinder with front-wheel drive or the 3.5-litre V6 with SH-AWD. The four-cylinder is the efficiency play, while the V6 brings stronger acceleration and a more engaging feel.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors and a surround-view camera are tied to higher trims or packages.
- Infotainment: The TLX uses a dual-screen setup, and Acura says the refreshed system is faster, but the layout can still feel complicated. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system is part of the car’s broader tech package.
- Fuel efficiency: The base 2.4-litre engine is rated at 8.7 L/100 km combined, while A-Spec trim is rated at 8.9 L/100 km combined. The V6 with SH-AWD is rated at 11.4 L/100 km city and 7.7 L/100 km highway, for 9.8 L/100 km combined.
Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 5 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX SH-AWD, Technology Package, Elite Package, and A-Spec.
Here's the short version:
- TLX FWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core TLX experience with the 2.4-litre engine, P-AWS, LED headlights, heated sports seats and the standard AcuraWatch safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- TLX SH-AWD: This is the better pick if you want the stronger 3.5-litre V6, the nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It adds the performance and traction that help the TLX feel more upscale and more rewarding to drive.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value upgrade for many shoppers because it adds leather seats, rain-sensing wipers, an upgraded 10-speaker ELS stereo, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel.
- Elite Package: This trim builds on the Technology Package with LED fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and a surround-view camera system. It suits you if you want more convenience and parking confidence.
- A-Spec: This is the sportiest version and the one Acura clearly wanted buyers to notice in 2018. It adds styling changes, a black headliner, Alcantara inserts, red ambient lighting, stiffer springs, more aggressive dampers, a thicker rear stabilizer, a sportier steering ratio and 19-inch wheels. If you want the most distinctive TLX, this is the one to target.
AcuraWatch is standard across the range, while blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors and surround-view cameras are reserved for higher trims or packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 57 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.92% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $19,481 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $19,898 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,591 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the TLX has moved into a more buyer-friendly part of its depreciation curve. If you’re planning to sell later, you should expect the market to remain sensitive to condition, equipment and trim choice rather than simply the badge alone. Higher-spec versions with the V6, SH-AWD and desirable packages should be easier to position than a plain base car.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?
The TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, though IIHS gave it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests, plus a Marginal rating for child-seat anchor ease of use.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and lane keeping assist, forward-collision warning with auto brake and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors and surround-view cameras are available only on higher trims or packages. The main caveat is the weaker IIHS result for child-seat anchor usability, along with the braking fade concern noted in expert testing.
Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.92% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 update brings a refreshed face, faster infotainment, retuned transmissions, extra standard safety and the standout A-Spec package.
The bottom line: If you want the most complete first-generation TLX experience, the 2018 model is the one to focus on because it adds meaningful updates and a more compelling sporty package. If your priority is simply the lowest purchase price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018’s stronger feature set and softer pricing make it the more balanced choice for many used buyers.
How does the 2018 Acura TLX compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?
Our experts score the 2018 Acura TLX 7.8/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10. The TLX is the more upscale and performance-focused choice, while the Accord delivers stronger value and broader market availability. If you want a luxury badge, available SH-AWD and a sportier personality, the TLX has the edge. If you want a lower starting price, better fuel economy and more listings to choose from, the Accord is the easier buy.
