Why it stands out
The 2015 Acura TLX was designed to do something Acura had not done with its sport sedan line-up before: replace both the TSX and TL in one model. That mission gave it a distinctive place in the brand’s range, and it also explains why the car was positioned between the two former sedans in size. Acura offered it only with automatic transmissions, which set it apart from the manual-equipped sedans it replaced and reflected the broader shift away from stick-shifts in luxury cars.
What made the 2015 TLX especially interesting was its choice of powertrains and chassis hardware. Buyers could choose a 2.4-litre four-cylinder with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic or a 3.5-litre V6 with a nine-speed automatic, and the V6 could be paired with SH-AWD. The base car also stood out for its four-wheel steering system, while the cabin included dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a two-screen infotainment layout with an eight-inch upper display and a seven-inch centre display. The four-cylinder version was the efficiency play, with Natural Resources Canada estimates of 9.6 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 6.6 highway, and 8.3 combined.
The 2015 TLX’s appeal was its mix of luxury features, value, and safety equipment, but it was not without drawbacks. The available Technology Package added leather seating surfaces, navigation, voice command capability, and an ELS 10-speaker premium audio system, while the Elite Package for V6 models brought ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic braking for forward collision mitigation. At the same time, the nine-speed automatic drew complaints, and the car’s back seat and cargo space were noted as limited. For buyers who want a premium sedan with a comfortable ride, strong equipment content, and a choice of engines, the 2015 Acura TLX remains distinctive, even if its transmission reputation keeps it from being an easy recommendation.

It’s true what they say about the 9 speed transmission , it gets jerky in the 2-3 gears
