What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base TLX FWD gives you 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, heated sports seats with faux leather, and P-AWS, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment. The A-Spec package is the standout for 2018, bringing a more aggressive look and chassis tuning that makes the car feel more distinctive.
• Powertrain: The 2.4-litre four-cylinder uses an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and is tuned for smooth, predictable performance. The SH-AWD model adds a 3.5-litre V6 with a nine-speed automatic, stronger acceleration, and the brand’s torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and surround-view cameras are reserved for optional packages or higher trims.
• Infotainment: The refreshed infotainment system is quicker than before, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics can still feel awkward. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, which helps offset the interface’s complexity.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.4-litre engine is rated at 8.7 L/100 km combined, while A-Spec trim is rated at 8.9 L/100 km combined. The V6 with SH-AWD is rated at 11.4 L/100 km city and 7.7 L/100 km highway, for 9.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 5 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX SH-AWD, Technology Package, Elite Package, and A-Spec.

Here's the short version:

• TLX FWD: This is the entry point, and it already gives you a strong equipment list with heated sports seats, LED headlights, P-AWS, and AcuraWatch. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the TLX without giving up the core safety and comfort features.
• TLX SH-AWD: This is the better pick if you want the V6 and all-wheel drive, since it adds stronger performance and the more advanced drivetrain. It suits you best if you care more about acceleration and all-weather confidence than keeping fuel use down.
• Technology Package: This is the best-value upgrade for many shoppers because it adds leather seats, rain-sensing wipers, an upgraded 10-speaker ELS stereo, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
• Elite Package: This trim is for you if you want the TLX to feel more fully loaded, with ventilated front seats, a surround-view camera system, parking sensors, a wireless phone charger, and other premium touches.
• A-Spec: This is the most distinctive choice and the one the experts highlight as the real winner for 2018. It adds the sportiest styling and chassis tuning, plus 19-inch wheels, and it’s the best fit if you want the TLX to feel more special from behind the wheel.

AcuraWatch is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and surround-view cameras are still tied to higher trims or packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 59 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.63% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,457 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $20,248 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,912 CAD.

That price movement suggests the TLX has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now but less ideal if you’re planning to sell soon. For a future seller, the current market indicates that value retention is steady rather than strong, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to list the car. Well-kept examples with desirable packages should be easier to move than plain base cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?

The TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, though IIHS gave it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests, plus a Marginal rating for child-seat anchor ease of use.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and lane keeping assist, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. That said, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and surround-view cameras are still limited to optional packages or higher trims. The IIHS results also point to a couple of caveats you should keep in mind when comparing used examples.

Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year stands out for its refresh, faster infotainment, retuned transmissions, extra standard safety, and the new A-Spec package.

The bottom line: If you want the TLX with the most appealing mix of updates, the 2018 model is the one to target. If you’re mainly focused on price, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2018’s refresh and added equipment give it a stronger case if you can find a well-priced example.

How does the 2018 Acura TLX compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2018 Acura TLX 7.8/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10.

The TLX is the more upscale and better-equipped luxury sedan, while the Accord offers stronger value, better fuel economy, and more listings to choose from. If you want a premium feel and available SH-AWD, the TLX has the edge; if you want the more practical and efficient choice, the Accord is the easier recommendation.
