Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan can be a good fit if you want a compact SUV with a more premium feel than many rivals, and its 3.5/5 user rating suggests mixed but workable owner satisfaction.

Owners commonly praise its smooth driving experience, premium interior, and decent gas mileage. Many also like its compact size and handling, which suits you if you want something easy to place in city traffic but still comfortable for everyday use. The Tiguan’s use case is strongest if you value a polished drive and a nicer cabin over maximum space or the latest technology.

With 29.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a fair number of market opportunities to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan stands out as a compact SUV that aimed for a more premium feel than many rivals, but its reliability reputation is a concern you should take seriously.

Owners do describe it as smooth and, in some cases, decent on gas, and those traits can support a more trouble-free day-to-day experience when the vehicle has been well maintained. Even so, the model’s long-term ownership risk is higher than you would want in a used SUV, so a careful inspection and service-history review matter a lot before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without needing to rush the first decent example you see.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 400 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $13,248 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $13,473 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,843 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation. For a future seller, the current trend points to a market that is still adjusting downward rather than one that is clearly rebounding.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.96% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2017 Tiguan makes sense if you want the earlier, more compact version with a premium-feeling cabin and a smoother, more car-like drive. If your priority is value and you find a well-priced example, the 2017 is worth considering; if you want to stretch for more space and a newer design, a different year may suit you better.
