Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its smooth ride, driving experience, and interior quality, and many also see good value for the price. That lines up well if you want a compact SUV with a more premium, car-like feel and everyday practicality rather than a rugged utility focus. With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that can feel dependable in daily use, with many shoppers appreciating its smooth ride and overall value. At the same time, the broader model reputation includes concerns around engine, cooling system, and electrical issues, so reliability is not its strongest calling card. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth taking seriously, especially if service history is incomplete.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 230 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.23% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $10,691 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $10,789 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,434 CAD.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for future sellers to command top dollar unless the vehicle is especially well kept. If you own one now, strong condition and documented maintenance matter more when resale values are under pressure. A model with a clear service record and desirable equipment should still attract interest, but you may need to price it competitively.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 Tiguan makes sense if you want a compact SUV with a more polished driving feel, a quality-focused cabin, and enough market softness to shop carefully. If you are price-sensitive, nearby years can still be worth comparing, but the 2016 is the better fit when you value the Tiguan’s premium-leaning character and can find one with strong maintenance history.
