Is the 2017 Volkswagen Passat reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Passat?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 59 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.86% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $12,360 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $12,434 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,324 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to buyers today but may limit upside for a future seller. If you buy at the right price, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a used Passat with strong owner satisfaction, solid value, and a market that has softened, the 2017 is a sensible place to start. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, compare it with nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, price, and deal quality.
