Is the 2020 Volkswagen Passat a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Volkswagen Passat earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its comfortable ride, quiet interior, and impressive fuel efficiency, while also noting its well-equipped cabin and luxury feel for the money. Enjoyable handling and a solid set of safety features also come up often. With 38.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with comments about its quiet, comfortable nature and trouble-free ownership experience. That kind of long-term confidence matters if you want a used sedan you can count on.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright reliability and more about finding one that has been maintained properly over time.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volkswagen Passat?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 63 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.88% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,302 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $17,310 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,605 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you purchase at the right price, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The current pricing also suggests that resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been kept.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,282 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $17,310 CAD average.
• Adaptive cruise control becomes standard.

The bottom line:
Choose the 2020 if you want the better value and a wider pool of lower-priced listings. Consider the 2021 if you are willing to pay more for standard adaptive cruise control and a slightly newer model year; if price matters most, the 2020 is the smarter starting point.
