Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Volkswagen Passat?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be patient and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 52 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.82% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,135 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $11,176 CAD sits slightly below last year's $13,767 CAD.

That softer pricing can be a mixed signal if you're thinking about future resale. On one hand, it may help you buy at a more attractive entry point today. On the other, it suggests the market has already adjusted downward, so future appreciation is unlikely unless demand strengthens.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a sensible choice if you want a used Passat with a lower average price and enough inventory to compare options. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you may want to focus on the cheapest well-kept listings rather than chasing a specific model year.
