Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Passat?

It looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 59 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.62% compared with last year.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $13,062 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,666 CAD.

That softer pricing can be a plus if you’re buying now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited unless market conditions improve. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying well so you have less depreciation to absorb. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 Passat makes sense if you want a well-liked used sedan with strong owner satisfaction and a market that currently favours careful shoppers. If your priority is stretching your budget, this year’s softer pricing makes it a sensible target; if you want to compare alternatives, nearby model years may still be worth a look, but the 2017 stands out as the value-focused choice.
