Is the 2017 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Subaru Forester earns a 4.67/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its safety, spacious interior, and reliable all-wheel-drive capability, and many also highlight its comfort and value. For you, that makes it a sensible choice if you want a practical compact SUV with all-weather confidence and everyday usability. Is the 2017 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a reliable, dependable feel, especially in all-wheel-drive use and day-to-day ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is avoiding examples with unresolved maintenance or prior damage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 227 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,979 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $14,993 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,358 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable entry point today. If you plan to resell later, the softer current pricing means your future value will depend heavily on how well the vehicle is maintained and how clean its history is. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move because the Forester’s practical reputation still appeals to used buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 Forester is the better fit if you want a practical, safety-focused compact SUV with strong owner approval and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a similar Forester can be had for less, but the 2017 remains a solid primary target if condition and service history are strong.
