Is the 2017 Kia Soul a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Soul earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. That fits well if you want a subcompact hatchback that is affordable, practical, and distinctive rather than conventional. Is the 2017 Kia Soul reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the Soul’s good fuel economy, comfort, and overall value. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it as a practical daily driver if it has been maintained properly.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the concept of the car and more about finding one that has been cared for consistently, especially given the age of the vehicle.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Soul?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 117 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.40% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $10,223 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Soul's resale value?

The current average of $10,284 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,759 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Soul has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer market than a year ago. If you buy at today’s average, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than broad market appreciation. The good news is that the Soul’s value-focused reputation and practical appeal help keep it relevant with used shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want the Soul’s roomy, value-oriented formula with a better-than-average ownership reputation and a market that currently favours careful shoppers. If your priority is simply the lowest possible entry price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 stands out as a balanced pick for buyers who want practicality and character together.
