Is the 2017 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Generally — the 4.2/5 user rating points to a model that many shoppers have been happy with. Drivers consistently praise its style, performance, and comfort, with especially strong feedback on the spacious interior and exceptional handling. That lines up well with the 2017 3 Series’ role as a premium small family car that still prioritises driving enjoyment and a refined cabin. Is the 2017 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback also points to a car that many owners see as dependable when it has been well maintained, with the model generally viewed as a good value in that condition. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a neglected example that could be more expensive to sort out than a typical commuter car.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 178 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.99% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,037 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $16,037 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,865 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you purchase at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned to preserve value than someone who pays near the top of the range. A well-documented service history should matter more to future buyers because this model’s premium image and owner satisfaction help sustain demand.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a well-liked, premium small sedan and you can find one with the right equipment and maintenance history. If you are especially price-sensitive, it makes sense to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
