How much does the 2020 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 10.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 126 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Generally — the 2020 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.1/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall showing. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

User feedback repeatedly highlights its performance, comfortable interior, and beautiful design, with especially strong praise for the M340 variant’s power and driving dynamics. The overview also frames it as a premium sedan that balances engaging driving with everyday comfort.

The main trade-offs are its polarising design and poor value for money, and some owners also mention a cabin that can feel cramped for taller occupants and interior noise that can be distracting. Even so, the broad appeal comes from the way it blends luxury-sedan polish, comfort, and driving enjoyment.

With 28.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with, with comments that support its dependable and long-term appeal through praise for its overall driving experience and comfort. The expert notes also reinforce that the car is built to be engaging and well sorted in daily use.

On the ownership side, BMW includes free scheduled maintenance and warranty coverage for the first four years or 80,000 km of ownership, which helps reduce early running-cost risk. For used buyers, the bigger concern is less about outright durability and more about whether the car has been maintained properly, especially given its premium positioning and the potential for costly repairs if upkeep has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 3 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 330i comes with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system in Canada, but it does not include even extra-cost metallic paint. The M340i is the standout upgrade, and the expert notes make clear that it is the version most driving enthusiasts will want if they can stretch to it.
• Powertrain: The M340i uses a 3.0-litre turbo inline six-cylinder engine with 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, paired with BMW’s rear-biased xDrive AWD drivetrain and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The expert notes also highlight its quick acceleration and strong real-world drivability.
• Safety package: To get BMW’s latest advanced driver-assistance systems, you need the Advanced Driver Assistance package. The expert notes say the features are accurate when used, but the system can feel abrupt and not especially smooth, and the lane-keeping assist is notably assertive.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive system includes a touchscreen display, natural voice recognition, gesture control, and the familiar centre-console controller. The voice assistant is described as excellent, and the touchscreen is easy to use, though the centre-console controls are less distinct by touch.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2020 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW 3 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 330i and M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the more accessible choice, and the data suggests it will suit you if you want the 3 Series experience without stretching to the performance-focused model. It still brings BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system in Canada, but the expert notes make clear that some desirable extras are reserved for higher-spec versions.
• M340i: This is the best-value trim if you care most about driving enjoyment. The expert notes single it out as especially impressive, with a 382-horsepower turbo inline six, rear-biased xDrive AWD, a rear M Sport differential, and strong brakes. If you want the most compelling version of this car, this is the one to target.

The Advanced Driver Assistance package is optional, so check carefully for safety-equipment content on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 126 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.58% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,124 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $33,858 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,866 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the current trend means you should expect more price sensitivity from shoppers than a year ago.

Even so, the 3 Series still has the kind of brand appeal and enthusiast interest that can support demand over time. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clear service history should remain easier to move than less desirable premium sedans.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2020 BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with the adaptive full LED headlights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

To equip the car with BMW’s latest advanced driving assistance systems, you need the Advanced Driver Assistance package. The expert notes say the features work accurately when used, but they can feel abrupt and not especially smooth, and the lane-keeping assist is intentionally assertive. That means you should check carefully for the package on any used example, especially if you want the most complete safety setup.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its especially strong driving character, with the available M340i singled out as a highlight.

The bottom line: If you want a used 3 Series that leans hard into performance while still delivering comfort and premium polish, the 2020 model is the one to focus on. If your priority is simply finding the lowest entry price, you may want to compare nearby years and shop whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and asking price.
