The current average of $29,495 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,624 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently today, but it also means a future seller may have less room to recover a premium if market conditions stay similar. Even so, the 4Runner’s reputation for durability and capability helps support demand among shoppers who want a rugged SUV with a proven track record. If you buy well now, the model’s strong reputation should still help it hold interest better than many mainstream SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a strong choice if you want the 4Runner’s rugged character, proven reliability, and solid owner approval without stretching to a newer model. If your priority is saving money, a nearby year with similar equipment may be worth a look, but the 2016 remains the better all-around pick when you want a balanced mix of value and confidence.
