Is the 2016 Subaru Forester a good car?

Generally — the 4.3/5 user rating points to a well-liked used SUV, especially if you want a practical compact model with a roomy cabin, strong visibility, and all-wheel-drive confidence for winter driving. Owners commonly praise its smooth ride, spacious interior, and safety features, and the overview also highlights its everyday usability and useful, easy-to-live-with character. The main appeal is straightforward: you get a sensible SUV that fits family duties, commuting, and poor-weather driving without moving up to a larger vehicle. Is the 2016 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable in daily use, with praise for its all-wheel drive, smooth ride, and overall performance. That said, the overview notes that early 2.5-litre models were affected by oil consumption issues, so maintenance history matters more than usual on the used market. For you, that means the best long-term ownership outcomes will come from a well-documented example rather than the cheapest one you can find.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 224 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.36% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $13,423 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $13,842 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,473 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for a future seller to command top dollar unless the vehicle is especially clean and well maintained. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation later, but the current trend still favours shoppers more than sellers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a sensible choice if you want a practical Forester with strong owner approval and a market that still offers some deal potential. If you’re price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest maintenance records rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
