CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Nissan Pathfinder
Summary
With 161 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,960 CAD, 27.3% of 2016 Nissan Pathfinder listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder stands out as a practical three-row SUV that leans more toward family comfort than hard-core off-road use. It offers a spacious interior with seating for seven, and the fourth-generation Pathfinder is described as more spacious than much of the competition. Buyers looking for a versatile used SUV will also appreciate its balance of everyday usability and capability, along with the strong towing ability that this generation is known for.
For 2016, the Pathfinder uses a 3.5-litre V6 engine with 260 hp and a continuously variable transmission, and it can be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system includes selectable 2WD, Auto, 4H, and 4LO modes, while the cabin brings tri-zone climate control on the base trim and available upgrades such as leather upholstery, remote start, heated second-row seats, a surround-view camera, and a Bose audio system depending on trim. That mix of space, equipment, and capability makes it appealing to shoppers who want a well-rounded midsize SUV.
There are some trade-offs, though. The source notes below-average fuel economy for the class, and early versions of this generation had transmission concerns, so a careful test drive and maintenance review are important. Even so, the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder remains attractive for buyers who value room, comfort, and utility over sporty handling or maximum efficiency.

Have had great luck with our previous pathfinder. Only concern is the windshield might have a bigger blind spot because of the curve of the windshield and this SV model doesn't have blind spot indicators on the mirror.

Great vehicle so far, no issues. I like the extra room over the Traverse and Acadia. It has more room in the cargo area than the Journey for sure, with the third row seat opened. I like the comfort and the driveability, it just seems smoother and more responsive. I like the power it has. So far a very nice vehicle. The steering wheel control layout makes sense and is easy to access. The navigation on the GM vehicles is a little easier to navigat through, but it may just take a little extra time to learn the Nissan layout. We were familiar with the GM system already. One small complaint, it does not have the digital speed readout. My wife got used to that on her Equinox. I liked it also, but the Pathfinder doesnt have it. Plenty of room to put it in there, but it doesnt have that feature.

I test drove the platinum edition that was fully loaded except for it was lacking a Sun roof which was a deal breaker unfortunately. I did enjoy the plush interior and ride quality. We compared this model to GMC Acadia, Dodge Durango, Acura MDX, Chevrolet Traverse, and Ford Explorers. We ended up going with the Acura MDX. Now that is refinement.

How much does the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,010 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $10,936 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $13,708 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,618 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.75% |
Prices have softened 12.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 162 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. You’ll likely appreciate the spacious interior, smooth driving experience, and the comfort, power, and cargo space that owners repeatedly mention. It also fits well if you want a practical three-row SUV with seating for seven and everyday versatility. With 28.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to find value in the market.
Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable for daily use, especially when it comes to comfort and space over the long haul. The main caution for used buyers is to review maintenance history carefully, since early versions of this generation were associated with transmission concerns.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 162 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.75% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $10,936 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?
The current average of $11,010 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,618 CAD.
That softer pricing can be helpful if you’re buying now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited unless the market tightens. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and service records. Strong demand for roomy family SUVs can help, but the Pathfinder’s resale performance will still be shaped by how well it has been maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.75% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and owner satisfaction, the 2016 is the stronger value play. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2016’s current market position.
