That softer pricing means future sellers may not see the same strength they would have a year ago, especially if market conditions stay similar. Well-kept examples with strong service history should still hold their appeal better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want a stylish, fuel-efficient compact car with strong owner appeal and a market that still offers some deal opportunities. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2016 remains a sensible choice when you find a clean example at the right price.
