CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Dodge Challenger
Summary
With 75 currently listed for sale and an average price of $46,403 CAD, 22.7% of 2016 Dodge Challenger listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Dodge Challenger 4.76 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Dodge Challenger stands out as a muscle car that blends old-school attitude with everyday usability. It is a five-passenger coupe with a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system that includes a touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, which helps make it more practical than its looks might suggest. It was also designed on a platform suitable for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and Dodge kept the formula fresh with a wide range of powertrains, head-turning colours, and special editions.
That variety is a big part of the Challenger’s appeal. The third-generation car offered Pentastar V6 and Hemi V8 engines, along with transmissions that included a Tremec six-speed manual, a five-speed automatic, and a ZF eight-speed automatic. Performance hardware such as adaptive suspension, launch control, Brembo brakes and calipers, and Mopar tuning options added to its appeal, while the broad trim and special-edition range gave shoppers plenty of choice. At the same time, buyers should be aware that many examples were neglected or abused, and interior quality and visibility can be weaker points according to owners.
For the 2016 model year specifically, the Challenger benefits from the broader strengths of the third-generation car: strong performance, distinctive styling, and a roomy cabin. Owners often praise its muscle-car character and retro look, and that combination helps it feel special even in daily use.

This is my 3rd Challenger, and I’ve loved them all. This particular deal had the car below the average price, and it was a manual, which was exactly what I wanted.

All the bells and whistles of a luxury car, rides great, and the R/T performance is phenomenal. More car for the money than either of its competitors, the Mustang and Camaro. I would liken it more to the Dodge Charger than those two though, because its built on a mid-size chassis and has a usable back seat, unlike the Mustang and Camaro. If equipped right, there is not a single option I can think of that it lacks. Ive owned probably 100 cars in my lifetime, and I would place this one in the Top Ten, maybe the Top Five. A real throwback to the muscle-car era with better performance, better fuel economy, and more options available.

Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.76/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, unique styling, and spacious interior, and many like the muscle-car feel and retro design that turns heads. For you, that means it works well if you want a five-passenger coupe with everyday usability and a strong personality. With 27.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience for many drivers, with the car’s strong performance and engine options helping it feel like something you can count on. At the same time, used examples can vary a lot in condition, so long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how well the previous owner maintained it. For you, the safest approach is to prioritise a well-kept example with clear service history.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Challenger?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 76 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.99% year-over-year.
If you find a listing below $34,921 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $46,645 CAD sits slightly above last year's $45,735 CAD.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, especially when the car presents well and has been cared for properly. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend is a positive sign because it shows steady buyer interest rather than a softening market. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones, especially given the Challenger’s strong enthusiast appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.76/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.99% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of owner satisfaction, current market support, and the Challenger’s classic muscle-car appeal, the 2016 is a solid choice. If you are more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest badge.
