Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Challenger stands out by leaning hard into retro muscle-car character while still using modern automotive technology. It combines a spacious interior and distinctive styling with heart-pounding performance, which helps explain why it remains one of the last modern muscle cars in a market that has moved in a more forward-looking direction. For buyers who want a coupe that feels different from the norm, that old-school personality is a major part of the appeal.
For 2020, the Challenger is described as largely unchanged, but it does gain several new colours, some additional interior design choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims. It is also built in Canada at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada facility in Brampton, Ont. The main trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard and its styling may be polarising, but it still offers easy-to-use technology, a fun driving experience, and the kind of powerful engine character that many shoppers seek in a muscle car.

I have to say the Dodge Challenger Widebody Scat Pack is an exciting car all around. It is a heavy, solid old school style MUSCLE CAR in all the good ways...spacious cabin with nice visibility, comfortable seats, all the very (easily) usable bells and whistles you could want and a huge trunk. Lots of engine gives it more than plenty of grunt and I am getting 18mpg all around driving. Solid build, great performance with no issues at all. I couldnt be happier with the value and how the car makes me feel. Very highly recommended!

Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Dodge Challenger earns 4.85/5 from owners and 8.00/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise the powerful performance, stylish looks, comfortable ride, spacious interior, and unique design. The Challenger also stands out for its easy-to-use technology and the kind of engine responsiveness that makes it feel special in daily driving.
The trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard and the styling may be polarising. It fits you best if you want a coupe with retro muscle-car character, modern usability, and a strong personality rather than a conventional sporty car.
With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is a meaningful share of competitively priced examples to consider.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as dependable and enjoyable to live with, with praise for its strong performance and comfortable ride over the long term. The expert assessment also points to a car that combines old-school character with current automotive technology in a way that supports everyday use.
The Challenger’s straightforward technology and proven powertrain choices should help reduce ownership surprises, but used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and how hard the car was driven.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 18-inch aluminium wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a pronounced hood scoop, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and unique houndstooth cloth seats. The R/T adds a V8 engine and an active exhaust system, while the Scat Pack 392 brings heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. If you want the best value, the R/T and Scat Pack 392 are the trims to focus on.
- Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-litre V6 with 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The R/T uses a 5.7-litre Hemi V8, the Scat Pack 392 steps up to a 6.4-litre Hemi V8, and Hellcat models use a supercharged 6.2-litre V8. If you want the strongest performance-for-the-dollar, the Scat Pack 392 is the standout.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available. You should check carefully for these options, since advanced safety features are not standard.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The available Uconnect 8.4 adds a larger screen and Garmin-based navigation with real-time traffic updates. The system is designed to be easy to use, with redundant buttons and dials that help keep operation simple.
- Fuel efficiency: The base 3.6-litre V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 12.4 L/100 km in city driving, 7.8 highway, and 10.3 combined. The V6 with all-wheel drive returns 12.8 city, 8.7 highway, and 11.0 combined. The most efficient V8 is the 5.7-litre in the R/T with the eight-speed automatic, at 14.7 city, 9.4 highway, and 12.3 combined.
Which 2020 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Challenger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, Scat Pack 392, Scat Pack 392 Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Challenger look, the 7-inch touchscreen, and a solid equipment base. It makes sense if you want the styling and cabin space without chasing V8 power.
- GT: This is the better pick if you want the V6 with a more distinctive appearance and extra convenience features like remote start and paddle shifters. It also keeps the available all-wheel drive option, which broadens its appeal.
- R/T: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the V8 and active exhaust without jumping to the much higher prices of the upper performance models. If you want the classic muscle-car experience, this is the sweet spot.
- Scat Pack 392: This is the trim to choose if you want the strongest performance-for-the-dollar. It adds the 6.4-litre Hemi V8, Brembo brakes, launch control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen.
- Scat Pack 392 Widebody: Choose this if you want the Scat Pack formula with broader fenders, wider tyres, and a wider track for a more aggressive stance and sharper cornering confidence.
- SRT Hellcat: This is for you if outright power matters more than value. It brings the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 and the kind of acceleration that defines the top end of the lineup.
- SRT Hellcat Widebody: This is the more composed Hellcat choice if you want the extra grip and more modern cornering feel that come with the wider body.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye: This is the extreme straight-line option, with even more power than the standard Hellcat and an automatic transmission only.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody: This is the most serious version in the range, combining the Redeye’s extra output with the Widebody’s added stance and handling confidence.
The Challenger’s safety package is not standard across the range, so check carefully for the optional technology group and other driver-assistance features on any used example you consider.

If you find a listing below $34,678 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $34,678 CAD sits slightly below last year's $47,140 CAD.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale values to depend heavily on trim, condition, and how desirable the specific configuration is.
Higher-performance and better-equipped versions are likely to draw more attention from used shoppers, especially if they are well kept and properly documented. If you buy carefully now, you may be better positioned to preserve value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger safe?
The Challenger earns a “Good” result in many IIHS crash-test phases, but it also receives a “Marginal” overall score from IIHS. It earns four-star ratings in front driver’s side crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in front passenger side testing from NHTSA.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
The main caveat is that advanced safety equipment is not standard, so you should verify which driver-assistance features are fitted on any used example you are considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 26.44% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 model year is largely unchanged, but it does gain several new colours, some additional interior design choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims.
The bottom line: If you want the Challenger’s retro muscle-car personality with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-market price, the 2020 is a sensible year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2020 stands out as a good balance of value, character, and available inventory.
