Why it stands out
The 2014 Jeep Cherokee stands out because it marked a dramatic shift for the nameplate. Jeep moved it to a softer crossover body style with front styling that was, in many ways, ahead of its time, and the design paired a modernised seven-slot grille with thin LED strips that looked like headlights but were actually running lamps. It was also sleeker and smaller than before, which helped give it a more contemporary feel than the rugged Cherokees that came before it.
What made it especially distinctive for buyers was that Jeep still built in real off-road hardware. Low-range transfer case capability was optional on Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims, and standard on the Trailhawk, which also included a rear differential lock. At the same time, the 2014 Cherokee was not as capable off-road as the old Cherokee because it used a front-wheel-drive-based drivetrain and did not have solid axles. The base 2.4-litre four-cylinder was described as harsh and underpowered, with 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque, while the optional 3.2-litre V6 made 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy was as low as 7.5 L/100 km highway.
Inside, the 2014 Cherokee offered a solid mix of everyday equipment and available technology. Standard items included LED taillamps, Bluetooth, air conditioning, two USB ports, an aux jack, an SD card reader, and remote keyless entry, while the tech package included a 5-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5.0 and voice recognition. Safety equipment was also fairly comprehensive, with front knee airbags and rear side airbags standard, and features such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors with cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and a backup camera available only on Limited and Trailhawk trims. That combination of style, comfort, and available capability is what gives the 2014 Cherokee its appeal, even if some buyers were put off by the four-cylinder’s performance and the model’s mixed reliability reputation.

This car has tank-like features. This car has good value. This car is missing remote start. I would compare this vehicle to a Chevrolet Traverse.

It looks like a roomy tank with the quality of a SUV a family man needs. This car has good value. This vehicle is missing remote start. I compare it to a Chevrolet Traverse.

This car is almost as capable as my 07 Jeep Wrangler and much more comfortable and quiet. The cost to operate is much cheaper and easier to drive. I like the standard SAT Rad and U connect is very easy to use. The Bluetooth was connected in about two minutes to my smart phone. Full size spare tire with TH option the others have cheater spare I think. The black leather seats with red stitching looks rich and the interior has many soft appointments that are well done. Bravo Jeep.

Is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is a mixed but appealing choice if you value comfort, style, and available features over outright performance. Its user rating is 3.86/5, and owners commonly praise its comfortable ride, stylish design, and strong feature content, especially in higher trims. The Cherokee’s use case is strongest if you want a compact SUV with a distinctive look and available Jeep capability without moving up to a larger vehicle. With 15.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
The 2014 Jeep Cherokee stands out because it marked a dramatic shift for the nameplate, but owners also describe mixed reliability and some quality concerns. In user feedback, the model is often seen as dependable for comfort-focused daily use, while some drivers report trouble-free ownership and others point to problems with performance and certain features. If you buy used, long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully, especially if the vehicle has not been well maintained.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Cherokee?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings closely.
- Deal availability: 15.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 157 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.23% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $9,494 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $9,526 CAD sits slightly below last year's $11,107 CAD.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Cherokee easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you plan to resell later, you should expect value retention to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. For a used buyer, that means a well-kept example matters more than usual.
Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 15.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.23% compared with last year.
The bottom line: The 2014 Cherokee makes sense if you want the distinctive styling, available Jeep hardware, and a comfortable, well-equipped cabin at a lower used price. If you are price-sensitive, you should also compare nearby model years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
