Reviews Summary

The redesigned 2026 Audi A6 marks the ninth generation of midsize luxury sedans from Ingolstadt, Germany. While it shares a name and some tech features with the Audi A6 e-tron introduced for the 2025 model year, the gasoline A6 is an otherwise different vehicle based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as the A5 sedan and Q5 crossover. A redesign was certainly needed as most other midsize luxury sedans—specifically the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class—were renewed more recently, and we haven’t had a genuinely new A6 since the 2020 model year.

Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before, but it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

Reviews Summary

Compared to midsize sedans, compact crossover SUVs offer more interior room, a taller driving position, easier entry and exit, and more models offer all-wheel drive (AWD). Their extra ground clearance helps you through snow or to scramble down a trail, too. They literally leave sedans in the dust, though they’re usually more expensive, get worse fuel economy, and handle less securely. Nevertheless, Nissan adds a 2025 Altima SR Premium trim to the Canadian lineup to drum up interest in its fading family car.

Verdict: Is the 2025 Nissan Altima a good car? It has terrific front seats, standard AWD in Canada, and a competitively priced trim walk. Otherwise, it simply doesn’t have what it takes to attract customers better served by other midsize cars.

Look and feel

2026 Audi A6

6/10

2025 Nissan Altima

7/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima presented a balanced aesthetic appeal, offering just enough flair to maintain visual interest without alienating its customer base with unconventional design choices. The Canadian lineup included S, SR, SR Premium, and Platinum trims, with the SR trim featuring 19-inch wheels and sport-bolstered front seats. Despite the absence of the more powerful VC-Turbo engine option, the Altima maintained its appeal with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. The interior, while comfortable, lacked the premium features found in higher trims, and the use of low-grade plastic detracted from the overall experience.

In contrast, the 2026 Audi A6, while not as visually striking as some competitors, maintained a handsome and refined appearance. The design featured a lower "singleframe" grille and fender flares inspired by the Quattro rally car. The A6's lighting system included programmable LED headlights and taillights, adding a modern touch. Available in base, Progressiv, and Technik trims, the A6 offered a sportier appearance with the S Line Black package. However, the interior materials were disappointingly bland, detracting from the luxury experience Audi aimed to provide.

Performance

2026 Audi A6

2025 Nissan Altima

7/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima was equipped with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and standard all-wheel drive. The driving experience was described as unremarkable, with decent acceleration and a quiet cabin. The SR trim offered a firm yet comfortable ride, though the steering lacked precision, and the brakes could overheat with aggressive driving. Fuel efficiency was commendable, with the Altima averaging 8.3 L/100 km during testing.

The 2026 Audi A6 featured a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine, delivering 362 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard quattro all-wheel drive. This powertrain provided a dynamic driving experience, with a 0-100 km/h time of 4.8 seconds. The A6's handling was enhanced by brake-based torque vectoring and an optional sport rear differential. However, the transmission exhibited hesitation under heavy throttle, and the ride quality suffered with the Sport Plus package's steel-spring suspension.

Form and function

2026 Audi A6

8/10

2025 Nissan Altima

8/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima boasted a comfortable interior, with front seats designed to reduce fatigue on long drives. The rear seats were supportive and spacious, and the trunk offered 437 litres of cargo space, expandable to 1,645 litres with the rear seats folded. Interior storage was commendable, and rear climate vents were standard in Canada.

The 2026 Audi A6, despite being longer than its predecessor, did not offer increased passenger space. The panoramic glass roof improved front-seat headroom, while rear-seat dimensions remained similar. The A6 provided comparable space to a BMW 5 Series, with heated rear seats and climate controls. The trunk offered 382 litres of cargo space, with 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats for added versatility.

Technology

2026 Audi A6

2025 Nissan Altima

7/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima offered two infotainment systems, with the SR Premium and Platinum trims featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The standard system included an 8-inch touchscreen with wired connectivity. The sound system was adequate, with a nine-speaker Bose system reserved for higher trims.

The 2026 Audi A6 introduced the Digital Stage setup, with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. The MMI infotainment system was criticized for its oversimplified layout, though voice recognition and wireless connectivity were standard. An optional Bang & Olufsen audio system featured headrest speakers for navigation directions. Audi planned an interface update mid-year, addressing some usability issues.

Safety

2025 Nissan Altima

6/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima's SR Premium trim offered ProPilot Assist 1.0, combining adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist. Standard safety features included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. The Altima received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA but performed poorly in IIHS evaluations.

The 2026 Audi A6 came with standard driver-assist features, including adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitors. However, the lane centring feature allowed for some lane wobble. Crash-test ratings were unavailable at the time of writing, typical for a new model year.
