2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Reviews Summary

A base-model Range Rover Sport costs about the same as a mid-tier trim of any other midsize luxury SUV. Land Rover plays in the big leagues, which require a minimum of six figures. Even with such an immense outlay, the Range Rover Sport is one of Land Rover's most popular models with sales that far surpass the Velar, Evoque, and Discovery.

This is the lens from which we evaluate the Range Rover Sport. The particular 2026 model we tested — the SV Carbon — is also the fastest, most extreme vehicle the company has ever made, providing further context for its roughly $200,000 MSRP. At that price, the choices narrow to a new Porsche Cayenne Turbo or a lightly used Aston Martin DBX or Lamborghini Urus.

Verdict: Anywhere it goes, the Range Rover Sport is at the top of its class.

2027 Chevrolet Bolt Reviews Summary

With more range, more power, and improved technology, the Chevrolet Bolt EV returns after a three-year hiatus. It’s also one of the most affordable EVs in Canada, but it’s due to remain in production only until mid-2027.

Verdict: The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV is an excellent choice for shoppers seeking an electric vehicle that won't break the bank. It may not be all that fancy or refined, but it gets the basics right when it comes to range and capabilities.

Look and feel

2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

7/10

2027 Chevrolet Bolt

5/10

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport maintained its distinctive and elegant appearance, characterized by a steeply angled windshield and rear window, a gently sloping roofline, and large upright body sections with minimal creases. These design elements were hallmarks of the Range Rover brand, giving it a narrow and tall appearance, which was beneficial for off-road driving and interior headroom. The vehicle featured trendy styling elements like pop-out door handles and a wide taillight strip, while the clamshell hood rested atop a narrow section of lights and a small grille, contributing to its tall and blunt front end. The SV Carbon variant stood out with a two-tone hood featuring exposed carbon fibre and additional carbon garnishes across various parts of the vehicle, including the grille, bumper, and exhaust finishers. The 23-inch carbon wheels, with their intricate weaves, were a testament to the SV's performance capabilities, albeit at a premium cost.

The interior of the Range Rover Sport was an evolution of its predecessor, with a minimalist aesthetic that some found too sparse. While the classic double gloveboxes and sharply angled dash remained, the removal of physical controls like the Terrain Response selector and stereo controls left some users wanting. The centre stack and console were dominated by black plastic, which, while cold and barren, was offset by top-notch seat controls and steering wheel design. Ultrafabrics, a no-cost option, offered a practical alternative to leather, especially for those prone to spills. The variety of headliners, including faux suede and contrasting fabrics, added a touch of luxury to the interior.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt retained a familiar look, with styling changes that were subtle yet effective. The front end resembled a conventional gas-powered car more than an EV, with a thin slot behind the Chevy Bowtie logo and an integrated grille insert in the bumper. The 2027 model continued the legacy of the 2023 version, straddling the line between a large hatchback and a subcompact SUV, with only the EUV body style returning. The Bolt's tall and narrow stance prioritized utility and interior space over a sporty appearance, with the RS model adding gloss black exterior trim for a touch of flair.

Inside, the Bolt underwent a more dramatic makeover while maintaining its basic structure. A larger digital instrument panel and infotainment touchscreen dominated the dashboard, with the push-button gear selector relocated to the steering column to free up storage space. The cabin was characterized by hard plastic surfaces, reinforcing its budget feel, though padded elbow touchpoints provided some comfort. The base LT trim featured cloth upholstery, while the RS trim upgraded to Evotex synthetic leather with red stitching. Despite the abundance of hard plastics, the rear seating area offered adequate space and comfort for passengers.

Performance

2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

10/10

2027 Chevrolet Bolt

7/10

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport offered a range of powertrains, each with two states of tune depending on the trim. All gas-only trims featured a mild hybrid system with a small battery and a 48-volt electrical system to reduce engine load and enable seamless stops and restarts. Standard features included an eight-speed automatic transmission, full-time four-wheel drive, and locking centre and rear differentials. The base S trim came with a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine producing 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The Dynamic SE trim added an electric supercharger, boosting output to 395 hp and 406 lb-ft. A plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 32-kilowatt-hour battery pack and an electric motor allowed for up to 85 kilometres of gas-free driving, with a total output of 454 hp and 487 lb-ft in hybrid mode.

A BMW-built 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine was available, delivering 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque on select trims. The SV trims featured a revised version of this engine, producing 626 hp with a sport exhaust system that enhanced the driving experience. The Range Rover Sport's adaptive dampers and air springs allowed for impressive off-road capabilities, with the ability to raise the vehicle 28.4 centimetres off the ground and drive through 90 centimetres of water. The SV Carbon's handling was exceptional, thanks to its grippy tires and revised air suspension system, which provided precise wheel control and reduced body roll.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt featured a new 65-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, reducing costs and reliance on rare earth minerals. A new motor from Chevy's Equinox EV delivered 210 horsepower and 169 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels, with a 0-100 km/h time similar to the previous Bolt EV, typically in the low seven-second range. While this acceleration was modest by EV standards, it was more than adequate for real-world driving, offering immediate response to pedal inputs. One-pedal driving was available, with adjustable brake regeneration levels for a customizable driving experience.

The Bolt's ride was firm but not overly harsh, with road noise more noticeable due to the absence of an internal combustion engine. However, the stereo easily masked any noise. The Bolt's agility on curvy roads was surprising, thanks to its low centre of gravity from the heavy battery in the floor. On a full charge, the Bolt offered an estimated range of 422 kilometres, an improvement over previous models. The vehicle featured a Tesla-derived North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge port, with adapters available for CCS and J1772 connectors. Charging speed increased to 150 kW, allowing for a quick recharge from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes.

Form and function

2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

5/10

2027 Chevrolet Bolt

6/10

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport provided ample space for passengers, with generous legroom and headroom in all outboard positions. Each seat was heated and electrically adjustable, with memory settings and ventilation options available for the front row. The exterior mirrors were large, offering excellent visibility. The vehicle boasted 592 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats, with an available cargo divider to secure smaller items. However, the 1,267 litres of space with the rear seats folded was limited for a midsize SUV, and the narrow door openings were a drawback.

The Range Rover Sport's towing capacity was impressive, at 3,500 kilograms for standard models and 3,000 kilograms for plug-in hybrids. However, the lack of physical controls was a significant issue, with most functions hidden in the touchscreen, making tasks like adjusting climate control or selecting driving modes cumbersome.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt offered a more upright driving position, with ample space for larger occupants. Taller drivers might have wished for more telescopic extension from the steering wheel, but the rear seats provided plenty of headroom and thigh support. The flat floor reduced the penalty for centre-seat passengers. The Bolt's cargo capacity was 459 litres, with a large bin underneath the floor for additional storage. The rear seatbacks folded flat with the cargo floor, providing a practical solution for carrying larger items.

While the Bolt lacked a frunk, it offered ample storage for personal items, with a large bin, floor tray, and centre armrest bin. The vehicle also featured a rubberized wireless phone charger and additional pockets in the dashboard, ensuring that drivers had plenty of storage options.

Technology

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport featured a 13.1-inch display with software that made basic functionality challenging but excelled at managing occasional features. The Wade Sensing app detected standing water, while the 4x4i app provided detailed information on the vehicle's off-road capabilities. The SV's "Body and Soul" seats with vibrating speakers were adjustable through an app. Everyday tech included Apple CarPlay, factory navigation, and a configurable instrument panel. The surround-view cameras and Meridian Signature stereo were highlights, though the latter wasn't as clear as in the full-size Range Rover.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt came with an 11-inch digital instrument panel and an 11.3-inch centre touchscreen, running on a Google-based operating system. While Apple CarPlay and standalone Android Auto were not supported, the system offered enough browsing control for music playback. The optional Technology package added a surround-view camera system, digital rear-view mirror, and wireless charging pad. The infotainment system was user-friendly, with logical menus and quick responses. The Bolt's navigation system helped drivers find charging stations and preconditioned the battery for optimal charging rates. The vehicle also supported vehicle-to-load charging, serving as a backup power source for a home.

Safety

2027 Chevrolet Bolt

7/10

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport came equipped with standard safety features such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, a surround view camera system, and more. However, it lacked front knee airbags, a front central airbag, and rear side airbags. While no crash-test ratings were available from North American organizations, the Euro NCAP awarded it a five-star rating.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt had not yet been crash-tested by North American organizations, but it was expected to achieve high scores based on its platform. Standard safety features included forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitors. The optional Technology package added a surround-view camera system, digital rear-view mirror, and more. GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system was available for an additional cost, making the Bolt one of the few budget EVs with such an advanced feature.
