2026 Hyundai Venue Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars because they have low profit margins. But North America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs — and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped in Canada after the 2020 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.
2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E Reviews SummaryEvery automaker needs a successful electric SUV, and the best way to go about that is to make it look good. Ford’s bread-and-butter electric SUV does that by borrowing design elements from the legendary Mustang coupe and convertible, teaming them with a roomy interior and useful electric driving range. Offered in a variety of trims, the Mach-E works as a practical daily driver and can be had with big-time power and even as a rally-inspired trail beast. Verdict: The Ford Mustang Mach-E’s appealing looks are backed up by a practical interior, a viable range, and a variety of trim levels. It doesn’t charge as quickly or go as far as some rivals and the ride could be better, but the Mach-E offers style in a market sadly lacking it.

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was classified as a crossover SUV, though its design leaned more towards a tall hatchback. It featured only front-wheel drive and had a ground clearance of 17 centimetres, which was higher than a typical car but not as elevated as a standard crossover SUV. The Venue's design was compact and narrow, reminiscent of European runabouts. Its upright windshield and bluff nose gave it an SUV-like appearance, complemented by available roof rails. The Venue's high nose was paired with lower headlights and high-set daytime running lights, while black wheel flares around its 15- or 17-inch wheels added to its SUV aesthetic. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional look, with a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen that resembled an iPad affixed to the dash.
In contrast, the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E stood out with its Mustang-inspired design, which elevated it above the average crossover SUV. The front featured a familiar Mustang grille insert and squinting headlights, while the sides showcased a sculpted design with an SUV-like two-box shape. The sloped roofline provided an SUV-coupe-like profile, and the rear boasted a roof spoiler and Mustang's sequential three-bar taillights. The Mach-E's Rally trim added a sporty touch with a black roof, black wheel arches, and dish-style wheels. Inside, the Mach-E offered synthetic leather that mimicked the real thing, with contrast stitching and a mix of soft-touch materials and sporty cloth on the dash. The GT trim featured sport seats with bigger bolsters, while the Rally trim added aluminum pedals and "Mach-E Rally" logos.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue was not known for its performance, as it was one of the least powerful vehicles on the market. It was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that produced 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. The power was delivered through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels. The Venue's acceleration was modest, with a 0-100 km/h time ranging from 8.5 to 8.8 seconds. Despite its low power, the Venue's lightweight design, weighing 1,251 kilograms, allowed it to feel peppy in city traffic. However, highway speeds revealed the limitations of its power, with the transmission being slow to downshift for more thrust. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it easy to maneuver in traffic and fit into tight parking spots.
The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E offered a range of powertrain options, starting with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup that provided 325 horsepower and a range of 380 kilometres with the Standard battery. The Extended Range battery increased the range to 483 kilometres. The Mach-E GT delivered 480 horsepower and 451 kilometres of range, while the Rally trim offered 410 kilometres of range. The Premium model tested had dual motors and the extended-range battery, producing 370 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The Mach-E's electric motors provided immediate torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds. The GT trim further enhanced performance with 480 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, achieving a 0-96 km/h time of 3.8 seconds. The Mach-E's handling was agile, with a low centre of gravity and rear-drive bias, though the ride could be improved, especially in the rear.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and synthetic leather seats with black upholstery and white contrast stitching. The seats were comfortable, with six-way manual adjustments, and standard front seat heating was a welcome feature. Headroom was ample, but legroom was limited for taller occupants. The rear seat offered just enough space for average-sized adults, though taller passengers would struggle for legroom. The rear seats folded flat in a 60/40 split, providing 528 litres of cargo space, which was modest compared to typical compact crossovers. The Venue's interior was dominated by hard black plastic, with limited soft-touch surfaces.
The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E offered a spacious interior, thanks to its longer wheelbase compared to gas-powered vehicles. It provided good headroom and legroom in both the first and second rows, though fitting three across in the rear was a squeeze. The Select trim was priced to qualify for the federal government's rebate, but it lacked some features like standard heated front seats. Cargo space was better than expected, with 841 litres behind the second row and 1,691 litres with the rear seats folded flat. The Mach-E also featured a 135-litre front trunk with a drain plug for added convenience.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue was equipped with a simple 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment features. While the screen size felt small by modern standards, it was functional and responsive. It offered limited functionality, including phone, radio, media, and phone projection connections, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Venue lacked features like navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it did include a wireless charging pad as standard in Canada. The audio system was a basic six-speaker unit, with no premium options available.
The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E featured a large 15.5-inch centre touchscreen with Sync 4A software, though it was starting to show its age with slow loading times. The screen was easy to use and could be updated over the air. The Mach-E came with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and the Ford Connectivity package offered features like a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot and real-time navigation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, and a wireless charging pad was optional. The audio system started with a six-speaker setup, with an optional 10-speaker B&O system available.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with a good set of standard safety features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and a driver attention monitor. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert were available on all but the base trim. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with mixed ratings from the IIHS.
The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E was equipped with Ford's Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ suite of safety features, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and more. BlueCruise, a hands-free driver-assist system, was optional. The Mach-E performed well in crash tests, earning a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS and a five-star rating from the NHTSA.
