2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE Reviews Summary

G-Wagens aside, the now-discontinued M-Class is what cemented Mercedes-Benz’s place in the SUV jungle. The descendant of that pioneering model is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE, which continues as the automaker’s entry into a midsize luxury SUV segment populated by the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, BMW X5, Genesis GV80, and Lexus RX. Mercedes also sells a GLE Coupe that competes with the BMW X6. A new GLE 450 4Matic Coupe is available for 2025.

Verdict: The GLE is a solid luxury SUV for families, but its competition is equally good.

2025 Nissan Pathfinder Reviews Summary

Despite a rich history and lengthy pedigree, the Nissan Pathfinder has struggled to compete against the most popular three-row crossover SUVs. That’s perplexing, as the Pathfinder offers excellent cargo capacity, comfortable seating, and a modern design, and it does it all at a competitive price. Slight updates for the 2025 model year are unlikely to vault the Pathfinder ahead of competitors like the Honda Pilot or Kia Telluride, but they nonetheless help make this attractive SUV even more appealing.

Verdict: The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder is missing the single killer app to put it clear ahead of competitors. Instead, it offers a beautifully well-rounded package, with no single area likely to let shoppers down, even if there’s no single area likely to wow them, either. An ideal workhorse for both adventurous and budget-friendly families, the 2025 Nissan Pathfinder delivers a solid, reliable experience across all aspects of ownership.

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

7/10

2025 Nissan Pathfinder

8/10

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE, last redesigned in 2020 and facelifted in 2024, presented a unique blend of design elements. It shared some visual bulk with other Mercedes SUVs but maintained a distinct rounded profile reminiscent of its predecessors. The squared-off wheel arches and horizontal grille gave it a wide stance, while the sharply tapered side glass and windshield created unusual proportions, especially in the GLE Coupe models. Despite not being the most attractive in the lineup, its styling was unmistakably Mercedes.

Inside, the GLE offered a luxurious experience with a variety of interior colors, though the Yacht Blue option was exclusive to the U.S. The interior featured upscale elements like chunky air vents, mesh speaker grilles, and 64-color ambient lighting, creating a sophisticated atmosphere. The attention to detail in the cabin made it feel special and distinct from typical luxury SUVs.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder, tested during a severe snowstorm, proved its capability with Rock Creek trim features like 3-Peak Mud-and-Snow-rated tires and standard all-wheel drive. Redesigned in 2022, the Pathfinder's fifth generation included trims from S to Platinum, with the Rock Creek standing out for its adventurous look. It featured a V-Motion grille, stacked LED lights, and a metal roof rack, emphasizing its rugged appeal.

Despite its tough appearance, the Pathfinder was a unibody crossover, lacking additional ground clearance or skid plates. Inside, it offered a mix of cloth and leatherette upholstery with bright orange accents in the Rock Creek trim. The interior was comfortable, with heated seats and a moonroof available on higher trims. The Pathfinder's design and features catered to those seeking a balance between style and practicality.

Performance

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

6/10

2025 Nissan Pathfinder

6/10

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a range of powertrains, starting with the GLE 350's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower. The GLE 450 4Matic featured a 3.0-litre inline-six with 375 hp, while the GLE 450e 4Matic combined a turbo-four with electric assist for 381 hp and 80 km of electric range. The AMG models, GLE 53 and GLE 63 S, delivered 429 hp and 603 hp, respectively, with the latter achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Despite its power, the GLE felt larger than it was, making urban maneuvering challenging.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder came with a single 3.5-litre V6 engine, producing 284 hp in most trims and 295 hp in the Rock Creek. The nine-speed automatic transmission replaced the previous CVT, offering smooth shifts. The Pathfinder's towing capacity reached 2,720 kg in higher trims, surpassing some competitors. Its soft suspension provided comfort on rough roads but lacked precision on twisty roads. Fuel economy was moderate, with the Rock Creek averaging 13.6 L/100 km during testing.

Form and function

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

8/10

2025 Nissan Pathfinder

7/10

The Mercedes-Benz GLE offered two-row and three-row configurations, with competitive cargo space of 894 litres behind the second row and 1,790 litres with seats folded. The front seats were heavily bolstered, providing a sporty feel, while second-row passengers enjoyed ample legroom. The GLE's towing capacity reached 3,500 kg, matching the Audi Q7.

The Nissan Pathfinder, though smaller on paper, provided ample space for passengers and cargo. It offered 470 litres behind the third row, expanding to 2,279 litres with seats folded. The Pathfinder excelled in comfort, with three-zone climate control and adjustable seating. The EZ Flex Seating System allowed easy access to the third row without removing car seats, enhancing family convenience.

Technology

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

9/10

2025 Nissan Pathfinder

6/10

The Mercedes-Benz GLE featured dual 12.3-inch screens for its digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, with MBUX offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interface could be accessed through various controls, including voice recognition. AMG models added drive modes and off-road displays, enhancing versatility.

The Nissan Pathfinder's tech lagged behind competitors, with an 8-inch screen in lower trims and a 9-inch in higher ones. It supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but wireless projection was limited. The Platinum trim offered a 13-speaker Bose system and a 12.3-inch driver display. While functional, the Pathfinder's tech felt dated compared to rivals.

Safety

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE

8/10

2025 Nissan Pathfinder

9/10

The Mercedes-Benz GLE came with standard safety features like forward collision warning and blind spot monitoring. The optional Driver Assistance Package added adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist. The GLE earned a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, though its front-crash prevention ratings were mixed.

The Nissan Pathfinder received top safety ratings from IIHS and NHTSA. It included standard features like blind-spot monitoring and ProPilot Assist. Higher trims added traffic sign recognition, enhancing safety and convenience.
