The 2024 Lexus TX was based on the Toyota Grand Highlander, yet it distinguished itself as a luxury SUV. It presented an upscale appearance, notably with its 22-inch silver-finished wheels included in the TX 350 Executive packages, enhancing its presence. The styling was more conservative compared to other Lexus models, which might have appealed to those previously put off by the brand's design. The TX came in various model series, including the TX 350, TX 500h F Sport Performance, and TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid, with prices ranging from $72,036 to $87,486, though the TX 550h+ was not yet available.

In contrast, the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban maintained its iconic status in the full-size SUV market. Chevrolet managed to update the Suburban's design without alienating its loyal customer base. The profile remained largely unchanged, but the new front fascia and rear end, along with updated lighting signatures, added a modern touch. The trim lineup stayed consistent, with the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country trims. The Suburban's interior saw significant upgrades, including a more sophisticated dash and a new 17.7-inch touchscreen display, replacing the outdated 10.2-inch screen. The Suburban continued to offer a spacious and functional interior, making it a strong contender in its class.

The 2024 Lexus TX 350 was equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. It accelerated to 100 km/h in about eight seconds, though it felt quicker due to its torque delivery. The TX 350's fuel economy was rated at 10.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, but during testing, it averaged 13.8 L/100 km. The ride and handling were well-balanced, with a firm yet comfortable suspension and accurate steering. However, the brake pedal felt too soft, though it was easy to modulate.

The 2025 Chevrolet Suburban offered a choice of engines, starting with a 5.3-litre V8 delivering 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The 6.2-litre V8, available on higher trims, provided 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The standout option was the turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six Duramax diesel engine, which saw a power increase to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine was smooth and quiet, offering impressive fuel economy. All engines were paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Suburban's steering was light, and the brake pedal had a heavy feel with some rebound. The Magnetic Ride Control suspension, available on higher trims, provided a softer ride, and an adjustable air suspension was also offered.

The 2024 Lexus TX addressed previous shortcomings in Lexus's three-row SUVs. It offered a comfortable interior with premium materials, though the front seats lacked a massage function. The second-row seat was less welcoming due to its flat lower cushion, but the third-row seat was habitable for adults. The TX provided 572 litres of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 1,625 litres with the third row folded and 2,746 litres with the second row down. The interior featured numerous storage options, though some lacked lining, potentially causing noise.

The 2025 Chevrolet Suburban excelled in interior space, offering 1,175 litres of cargo capacity behind the third row, expanding to 2,656 litres with the third row folded, and a massive 4,092 litres with all seats down. It could seat up to six passengers with the three-across front row option. The Suburban also boasted excellent towing capacity, with the 5.3-litre V8 and Max Trailering Package allowing for up to 3,765 kilograms. The diesel engine offered impressive fuel economy, allowing for nearly 1,000 kilometres of highway driving on a single tank.

The 2024 Lexus TX featured a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a digital rearview mirror, with additional options like a head-up display and surround-view camera in the Executive packages. The Lexus Interface infotainment system included a 14-inch touchscreen display, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Drive Connect, a subscription service, added cloud-based navigation and a digital assistant. The TX also offered free 10-year subscriptions to Service Connect and Safety Connect, with Remote Connect free for three years. The optional 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system provided impressive sound quality.

The 2025 Chevrolet Suburban made significant improvements in technology, featuring a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 11-inch driver information display, and an available 15-inch head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, along with Google Built-in, which integrated Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Play Store. The user interface was intuitive, though the driver information display's customization was less so. The new steering wheel design was more complex, but physical buttons for essential functions remained. The top-range Bose stereo was adequate but not exceptional.

The 2024 Lexus TX came equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which included adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and more. Proactive Drive Assist was also part of the system, though it was not entirely transparent in operation. Additional safety features included blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe exit assist system. The traffic jam assist system provided hands-free driving at low speeds on approved highways.

The 2025 Chevrolet Suburban had not been crash-tested by the NHTSA or IIHS at the time of review, but the 2024 model received four out of five stars in overall crash safety. The Suburban included a comprehensive list of ADAS features, such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian and bicycle braking, and more. GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving technology was available on most trims but would not be available at launch.
