The 2022 Toyota Sequoia, a continuation of its second generation, showcased a mature design that had remained largely unchanged since its last major overhaul in 2008. Despite its age, the Sequoia maintained a classic exterior with a modestly sized grille and elegant wheel arches, avoiding the oversized features seen in many modern SUVs. Its dimensions were substantial, with a height of 1,956 millimetres, a width of 2,030 mm, and a length of 5,210 mm, riding on a 3,099 mm wheelbase. The interior, however, felt dated, with a 7-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch TFT driver information screen that seemed out of place compared to the larger displays in contemporary SUVs. Nevertheless, the Sequoia's interior was built with high-quality materials, ensuring durability and longevity, making it suitable for families.

In contrast, the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse offered a more modern aesthetic with a light restyle that included new headlights, taillights, and grille designs. The RS trim, in particular, featured blacked-out trim and dark gray 20-inch wheels, adding a touch of sophistication. The Traverse's interior was logically laid out, with black leather upholstery and contrast stitching, though it did have an abundance of hard plastic surfaces. The infotainment system was more advanced than the Sequoia's, with an 8-inch touchscreen and a digital instrumentation panel available in higher trims. The Traverse's design was both stylish and functional, appealing to those seeking a contemporary SUV experience.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia was powered by a robust 5.7-litre i-Force V8 engine, delivering 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. This engine was paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, providing a reliable and durable powertrain. The Sequoia's truck roots contributed to its impressive payload capacity of up to 608 kilograms and a maximum towing capacity of 3,221 kilograms. Despite its hefty weight of approximately 2,721.5 kilograms, the Sequoia offered a smooth and stable ride, with excellent off-road capabilities thanks to its body-on-frame construction and four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension. However, its fuel consumption ratings were less favourable, with 18.5 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 13.9 on the highway.

The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse featured a 3.6-litre V6 engine producing 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The 2022 Toyota Sequoia excelled in passenger comfort, offering spacious seating across all three rows with ample headroom and legroom. It featured three-zone climate control, a power moonroof, and heated front seats as standard. The Sequoia's cargo space was generous, with 535 litres behind the third row, expanding to 1,886 litres with the third row folded, and a maximum of 3,401 litres with both the second and third rows down. The interior provided plenty of storage options, including a large centre console and door pockets.

The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse, while offering a roomy interior, had a seating capacity of seven in the RS, Premier, and High Country trims due to the inclusion of captain's chairs in the second row. The Traverse featured power-adjustable and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and triple-zone climate control. The Smart Slide function in the second row facilitated access to the third row, which could accommodate adults with some adjustments. The Traverse boasted ample storage, including a hidden compartment behind the infotainment screen and another under the cargo floor. Cargo space measured 651 litres behind the third row, 1,637 litres with the third row folded, and a maximum of 2,781 litres.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia's technology offerings were somewhat outdated, with a 7-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch TFT driver information screen. However, it did include standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Higher trims added navigation and a JBL premium audio system. The Sequoia's exterior lighting was fully LED, and it featured a rear backup camera and parking sonar.

The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse offered a more advanced infotainment system, with a 7-inch touchscreen in the LS model and an 8-inch high-definition display in higher trims. It supported wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity for two smartphones, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Traverse also featured Teen Driver technology and an available digital rearview mirror. The RS trim included a Bose premium sound system and a surround-view camera, enhancing the overall technology experience.
