2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB Reviews Summary

Designed for Europe’s narrow city streets and tight parking spaces, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB aims to maximize utility in an SUV that is minimally sized. The result is a boxy vehicle emphasizing practicality over style, offering seating for up to seven people and a base price under $50,000 combined with the performance, technology, and luxury upgrades you expect in a Mercedes.

2023 Kia Telluride Reviews Summary

Kia can barely keep up with demand for the Telluride, and its dealers and customers have told the company not to change a single thing, so you’d think it unnecessary for the automaker to invest a single penny upgrading the popular three-row crossover SUV.

Kia would disagree.

This year, the 2023 Telluride gets minor styling changes, new technologies, and some off-roading attitude in the form of new X-Line and X-Pro trim levels. We headed to San Antonio, Texas, to sample the Telluride’s new kit. And we remain impressed with this excellent family-size sport-ute.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB

5/10

2023 Kia Telluride

9/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB was positioned between the GLA and GLC in the automaker's SUV lineup, available in GLB250 and AMG GLB35 specifications. In Canada, the GLB250 featured standard 4Matic all-wheel drive, while the AMG GLB35 boasted a more powerful drivetrain and sophisticated AWD system. The model introduced a new Night Package with black grille louvers and badges, and a Rose Gold paint option for the AMG GLB35. Starting at $47,000 for the GLB250, the AMG GLB35 began at $59,300, with options pushing the price to approximately $63,500 before destination fees. The GLB's design was distinctive, with a steep windshield angle and nearly vertical rear window, prioritizing function over form. The interior, however, was a highlight, featuring high-definition displays and ambient lighting, though the controls required acclimation. Quality was evident, but road noise was notable, especially with the optional 21-inch wheels.

The 2023 Kia Telluride, sampled in Texas, featured refreshed styling with updated headlights, taillights, and new wheel designs. New paint colours included Midnight Lake Blue, Dawning Red, and Jungle Green, with interior options like Terracotta, Navy, and Sage Green. The X-Line replaced the Nightfall Edition, offering a raised suspension and unique design elements, while the X-Pro added all-terrain tires and exclusive wheels. Interior updates included a digital instrumentation panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Telluride offered trims like EX, SX, SX Limited, X-Line, and X-Pro, with prices starting at $50,195 for the EX. The X-Pro, priced at $62,795, excelled off-road with improved ground clearance and towing capacity. The Telluride impressed with its smooth ride quality and quiet cabin, though the steering in Sport mode was firm.

Performance

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB

8/10

2023 Kia Telluride

9/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB featured a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-4 engine, with the AMG GLB35 producing 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This was a significant increase over the GLB250's engine. The AMG GLB35 included an AMG SpeedShift eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and AMG Performance variable 4Matic AWD. It accelerated to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, with a fuel consumption rating of 11.2 L/100 km. The AMG High-Performance Braking System and AMG Ride Control adaptive damping sport suspension enhanced its performance. While the AMG GLB35 was thrilling on twisty roads, it was firm and loud in daily driving, making the GLB250 a more practical choice for most.

The 2023 Kia Telluride retained its 3.8-litre V6 engine, delivering 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It offered Eco, Comfort, Smart, Sport, and Snow driving modes, with an AWD system featuring a low-speed Lock setting. The Telluride averaged 9.8 L/100 km in the X-Line and 11.5 L/100 km in the X-Pro, which included off-roading. The X-Pro's raised suspension and all-terrain tires improved off-road performance, while the Telluride's ride quality remained smooth and connected on highways. The SUV's steering was firm in Sport mode, but overall, it was delightful to drive.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB offered a roomy interior with an optional third-row seat for children. Standard features included dual-zone climate control and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The GLB's cargo area provided 560 litres of space, expanding to 1,755 litres with the second row folded. The third-row seat reduced storage space, making the GLB less ideal for those needing a true three-row SUV.

The 2023 Kia Telluride accommodated seven or eight passengers, with premium Nappa leather upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. The second-row captain’s chairs were heated and ventilated, with USB ports and storage pockets. The third-row seat was more comfortable than many competitors, though not as spacious as the Volkswagen Atlas. The Telluride offered a smart power tailgate and generous cargo space, with 601 litres behind the third row, expanding to 2,455 litres with both rear rows folded.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB featured the MBUX infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and touchscreen. While Bluetooth was standard, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were optional in Canada. The system included natural voice recognition and a digital assistant, though some features like Wi-Fi and a head-up display were not present on the test vehicle.

The 2023 Kia Telluride came with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Kia Connect services. It supported over-the-air updates and simultaneous Bluetooth pairing for two devices. The Telluride featured Driver Talk and Quiet Mode, a wireless phone charger, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. New digital-key technology and a Full Display rear-view mirror were also available, enhancing convenience and safety.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB lacked the optional Driver Assistance Package, which included adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. Standard safety features included Active Brake Assist and blind-spot monitoring, but crash-test ratings were unavailable.

The 2023 Kia Telluride offered a comprehensive suite of safety features, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking. It included blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The Telluride also featured Highway Drive Assist and a Rear Occupant Alert system. The IIHS rated it as a Top Safety Pick+, though NHTSA ratings were unavailable.
