2022 Acura RDX Reviews Summary

Though Acura still sells cars, the automaker’s SUVs are the most popular with consumers. The 2022 Acura RDX is the smaller of the company’s two sport-utes, equipped with a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a standard-in-Canada torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, and five trim levels. This year, Acura freshens the 2022 RDX with new styling, a quieter cabin, additional equipment, and refined ride and handling characteristics for some versions.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE Reviews Summary

A subtle refresh for the 2024 model year (launched in 2023) keeps the popular Mercedes sport-utility competitive against a wide roster of rivals, which include the BMW X5, Genesis GV70, Cadillac XT6, Acura MDX, and Volvo XC90, to name just a few.

Changes between the previous GLE and the 2024 model year consist primarily of a subtle redesign of the front grille (look closely and you’ll see it's now filled with tiny Mercedes-Benz star logos), reprofiled headlights and taillights, an updated infotainment system, and optional off-road-themed air suspension system that can raise the GLE 3 centimetres to clear obstacles. It can also shimmy this Mercedes sport-ute back and forth to help get it unstuck over tricky terrain.

Specific to our testing purposes, the 2024 GLE also ushers in a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant called the GLE 450e 4Matic. As the last part of the name suggests, like every 2024 GLE, all-wheel drive (AWD) is fitted as standard. Yet the big news is what’s under the hood of this new model, namely a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and 23.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

While fully electrified vehicles presently grab the most automotive headlines, a week spent on a test drive of the GLE 450e highlighted how easily this luxurious PHEV sport-utility adapts to all sorts of driving situations.

2022 Acura RDX

9/10

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE

7/10

The 2022 Acura RDX featured subtle styling changes inspired by its larger sibling, the MDX. Updates included modifications to the grille surround, front and rear bumper styling, and new wheel designs and paint colours. The limited-production PMC Edition returned with exclusive Long Beach Blue Pearl paint and an Orchid white interior, named after Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio. The RDX lineup included various trims, with prices ranging from $45,800 to $61,500, excluding a destination charge. The A-Spec Platinum Elite package offered high-quality interior materials and a quieter cabin, though some design elements like the vertical air inlets were less appealing.

In contrast, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE received a subtle exterior makeover, with changes to the headlights and taillights that were hard to notice. The GLE 450e test vehicle stood out with its Twilight Blue metallic finish and 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels. The interior exuded luxury with Macchiato beige and black leather upholstery, complemented by natural grain brown walnut trim. Mercedes offered a wide range of interior colour choices and trims, making the GLE’s cabin one of the highest quality in its segment.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE

8/10

The 2022 Acura RDX was powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder VTEC engine, producing 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It featured a 10-speed automatic transmission and Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system, which enhanced driving dynamics. The RDX offered a smooth ride with its adaptive-damping suspension and Integrated Dynamics System, providing distinct driving modes. Despite its enjoyable driving character, it didn’t qualify for Acura's Type S performance badge, leaving driving enthusiasts to consider German alternatives.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a range of powertrains, including the GLE 450e with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and electric motor, delivering 381 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The GLE 450e accelerated from zero to 100 km/h in approximately 5.5 seconds. It boasted a fuel economy of 4.1 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres in electric mode, with a range of 77 kilometres. The transition between gas and electric power was seamless, and the suspension provided a smooth ride even on rough roads. The GLE’s sophisticated steering made it feel maneuverable despite its size.

The 2022 Acura RDX, though compact, offered ample room for four adults and their luggage, with a standard panoramic sunroof. It offered 835 litres of cargo space, expandable to 1,668 litres with the rear seats folded.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE provided generous headroom and legroom for five passengers, with a light and airy cabin. It offered 630 litres of cargo space behind the second row, with an optional third-row seat for young children. The GLE 450e included numerous comfort features, such as power-adjustable heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. Additional luxury touches included a Burmester surround-sound audio system and massaging front seats.

The RDX offered three premium sound systems, with the top-tier ELS Studio 3D surround-sound audio system available in higher trims.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE boasted the Mercedes Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with dual 12.3-inch screens. It offered wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an improved voice command system. The optional head-up display and augmented reality navigation were praised for their clarity.
