2021 Toyota Sienna Reviews Summary

Toyota’s minivan got a major makeover for 2021, now entering its fourth generation of production since debuting as a 1997 model. For the first time, the Sienna gets a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, and not only that—it’s standard equipment. The Sienna Hybrid is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) platform, shared with the Highlander and other current Toyota models.

2022 BMW X3 Reviews Summary

Since its inception in 2003, the BMW X3 has grown to become one of the brand’s top sellers. And starting with its second generation (circa 2010), the luxury compact crossover has been built at BMW Spartanburg—the automaker’s only manufacturing facility north of the Mexican border. Incidentally, because Spartanburg is the global producer of every gas-powered BMW crossover besides the X1 and X2, the plant also boasts the highest production numbers of any BMW plant worldwide. One can speculate that the popular X3 has a lot to do with that.

Last redesigned for 2018, the X3 receives a rather hefty mid-cycle refresh for 2022. Updates include design tweaks, new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features. (Interestingly, while the BMW X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid has been dropped from the lineup in the United States, it continues in 2022 in Canada. This model is not covered in this review.)

Its wide grille and horizontally arranged LED headlamps contributed to a modern look, while the redesigned sliding side doors added a sculpted elegance. Inside, the Sienna emphasized width with horizontal lines and a simple, uncluttered dashboard. The seating position was elevated, offering a comfortable ride, and the centre console was thoughtfully designed with ample storage and cupholders. The second and third rows provided comfort and flexibility, with the second row sliding to optimize space.

In contrast, the 2022 BMW X3 showcased a more aggressive exterior design with a slightly larger kidney grille and adaptive full LED headlights. The rear featured new taillights with a distinctive pincer claw shape, and the updated rear bumper and exhaust tips added to its sporty appeal. It offered both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options, with the latter utilizing a separate electric motor for the rear wheels. The Sienna's electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) provided smooth power delivery, though it lacked the punch of a conventional automatic. The 2022 BMW X3 offered a range of powertrains, starting with the xDrive30i's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The X3 M40i featured a more powerful 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system, producing 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The M40i's performance was enhanced by a sports exhaust system, adaptive suspension, and a rear-oriented torque split AWD system. The X3's eight-speed automatic transmission and selectable driving modes provided a dynamic driving experience, with the M40i offering a 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds.
