1994 Ford Escort Reviews, Pricing & Specs

What owners say
"Overall, drivers are generally satisfied with the 1994 Ford Escort, frequently highlighting its reliability, fuel efficiency, and good handling. Many owners appreciate its low maintenance costs and the fun factor it provides, especially in manual transmission models. However, several reviewers pointed out the car's lack of power and poor acceleration, particularly with the automatic transmission. Additionally, some mentioned concerns about electrical issues and the need for repairs."
Straight forward little car that could! I'd still happily bee driving her had a deer not ended her. Great mpg, great cargo room (for a compact), wonderful turning radius. She may not have been a looker, but she did everything you could ask.
August 13, 2013I LOVE my Escort! I've had mine for almost ten years, and has been reliable and can take a beating. I've used it for long road trips, transporting cargo and people, and pretty much everything in between. The manual has more power than the automatic, for sure. It's a good car for beginners who are learning to use a clutch. FABULOUS MPG, anywhere between 38 and 45 on the freeway and averages 35 MPG on windy country roads. It holds its lower gears really well, and on snowy/icy roads, that's a major plus. Add some good snow tires and beefy chains and it gives an AWD a run for the money. Basic maintenance is pretty easy on this car. I can change the oil, fix the battery cables, flush the radiator and change the air filter without a major amount of labor. I did have to replace the engine(after about 200k miles), but it was cheaper to replace the engine on the car than it was to get a new one, and everything else on the car was working just fine. :) That being said... Since the car is almost twenty years old and Ford quit making Escorts back in 2002, the parts are becoming harder to find and when found are costing more. Ford no longer makes the LX body kit(mine currently has the GT grille and it looks WRONG :P), the steering wheel counterweight, or the power steering cables. As far as I know Ford still makes the clutch kit, but what used to be a $300 repair has now spiked to $1200(labor included)! A new fuel pump is costly as well, around $400(DO NOT go aftermarket on the fuel pump, I learned this the hard way). My current mechanic had to make a new part for the shifter from scratch(although I won't complain about that one, the part he made was better than the one Ford made!), and had to modify the steering wheel counterweight since Ford no longer makes it and he was not liking what he was finding in terms of aftermarket parts. If I could change one thing about this car it would be the seatbelts. I have those lovely electronic seat belts that like to jam and cost a fortune to fix. They also don't work worth a darn in a crash. I was involved in a minor fender bender and I flew forward and caught the steering wheel because the belt didn't lock the way it's supposed to. Big safety flaw and I'm not thrilled about it, and am currently looking to get non-electric replacements. All in all it's been a wonderful car for me, and were it not for the rising scarcity of the parts I would highly recommend it. If you take care of it with the proper maintenance it will take care of you. :)

March 28, 2008first of all a powerful and reliable car.Comfortable and have quality no need to improve performance. It has much space for a family.Appearance is also nice.i cannot say its a fun to drive but its a comfort to drive.i can recommend it to everyone who have less money
November 20, 2011I like how solidly it is built. I rear-ended an SUV in this car, and it still runs awesome. Spectacular gas mileage and it's a blast to drive. Lots of room in the back for stuff! Get one for yourself!
January 26, 2009Nothing really to review, but okay. Accelerates well up until you have to shift out of second gear. No top end power whatsoever. Handles like it's on rails, even for a front-wheel drive car. Reliable as the sun.
April 24, 2008Trim was weak, but good gas mileage, and practical vehicle.
January 6, 2008Overall it's not a bad car. We've had the car for 12 years and now it has 106,000 miles. The only thing we ever needed to replace on it was the alternator. Handling is excellent and sporty, but acceleration is terrible especially with the automatic transmission. I wish it had a 5-speed. It gets great gas mileage, sometimes achieving 38mpg on the highway. The interior is nice but the it's pretty loud on the highway. I would recommend this to a friend looking for cheap, reliable transportation.
January 14, 2009This car was given to my wife and I. You see it here after the engine had a knock in it. We found out later that the engine had broken a roller lifterr retaining clip, allowing the roller lifter to turn in its bore, thus damaging itself and the cam. We replaced the cam, rockers, lifters, and some other maintainance parts while it was apart. The bottom line is this, the Ford Escort is a good, reliable car that is rather cheap tp own. Our car can get upwards of 30MPG which is not bad for this car. It is not a powerful car in any way. The engine is 88HP. Bottom line it is a great point A to B car and nothing more.
May 22, 200888 hp engine, not very powerful, not great pickup Steel frame and steel on the majority of the body. Few easily fixed rattles, some old car shudder to it Decent body appearance, nice color Fairly cheap to maintain & cheap to fill up Overall it was a great first car, not super fast, but safe. It ran well and never gave me much trouble.
