Its a four banger. thats all i gotta say. its peppy, but nothing special. built pretty cheaply. its small and is easy to handle, has a distinct look. this car is cheap and good on gas. this car isn't much fun to drive, but get the job done. good first car.

Though technically an Escort, the ZX2 was really the progenitor of the new ZX3. The 2.0 Liter DOHC I-4 Ztech was a fantastic platform to build off of for "tuners". So much so, in fact that they recycled most of it for the Focus power plant. Coming with 130hp out of the box, it beat the Civic EX in power (127hp). Having a better weight/power ratio than a Focus, as well as superior gear ratios, it was notable quicker and more agile than a similarly equipped Focus. My ZX2 went through various stages of performance modifications: Cold Air intake. K&N Filter Charger Diablo Superchip Borla Exhaust Limited Slip Differential Removed speed limiter... With 93 Octane, I was running about 180hp at the flywheel, 150ish at the wheels. After removing some extra weight, the power to weight ratio was pretty impressive. All this and it got 35-40mpg if you babied it... not that I usually did. I loved the car. I miss the car. I want another one.

I really like the style of the body. Fun to drive only if its a manual....of course. Its easy to work on. Handles great through turns. Plenty of trunk space for stereo systems. Lots of custom made parts to choose from.
