2000 Ford Escort Reviews, Pricing & Specs

It looks good for what's about to happen to it. For a car with one seat and no interior I guess its comfortable. It has some rust under the doors. I plan on welding some metal in there when I build the roll cage for it. It is a little tiny bit sluggish off the start, but as soon as it hits about 5 miles per hour it takes off like someone flicked on a switch and turbocharged it. It's weird, but I will be racing it in the mud and as soon as I get moving it will accelerate out of the turns fast. It is very fun to drive, and for anyone wanting to make a great compact race car, I would recommend a zx2.May 07, 2014

great acceleration... until u hit 2nd gear. makes up for it in 3rd and 4th though. the smart ass people at ford aligned the engine block, crank shaft and transmission incorrectly in every single 2000 focus and escort, resulting in an insane amount of vibration when the car is idling. the cars still work, but it knocks off allot of hp. This started out as little more than basic transportation. With some after market additions, it actually turned out to be a fun car. It was also a pretty good looking cheap car. In stock form, the intake design kills power by straving the twin cam engine of air! The skinny little stock wheels and tires ruin any handling the car may have. With a new air intake system, and bigger wheels and tires, this car was surprising. It handled very well, and with a engine that could breathe, it had a lot more useable power! The 5-speed transmission was nothing special, but it was essential to wringing out the maximum performance of the engine. This car with the Automatic transmission was worthless! Note: these modifications are exactly the same mods Ford made to the SR version of this car! Where this car was lacking was in useable interior space. Headroom was limited, and rear seat room was a joke!Aug 24, 2009

i loved this car!! i only sold it cause it was starting to brake down on me and i could afford the repairs all at once. :( although it looke really nice and pretty, it lacked everything in the engine department!! Ford only put 140 horsepower in it. if they ever made a new one with the same design, but with more horsepower and tourq, oh and a much better clutch system....lol..... i would deff. buy it!! like mabye with 200 horsepower turbo with at least 180 pounds of tourq or more!!!SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!! but nnnoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! they stoped making that car in 2000.. and they only had 14 in Canada.. 3 in Montreal and mine was one of them.. i miss that car. lolJul 18, 2009

Pretty good performance for a car in it's class. Handles well given the skinny tires. Build quality is pretty solid, the oly major repair I've had to do was a transmission overhaul, part of which might just be the way I drive the car. Get's good gas mileage(~30) when I don't have my foot to the floor(which is most of the time). Compared to a lot of cars my friends own, this is definitely more fun to drive.Jun 27, 2008
