This vehicle is proof positive that you CAN polish a turd!
560,000 miles:
2nd engine, 3rd automatic transmission, suspension and steering re-worked (after
300,000 miles)
Reliable, easy to maintain and repair but ugly as Hell.
Commuted 150 miles a day for a year last year - only cost me a tire and gas.Apr 14, 2013

I do love the great handling and peppy motor but it lacks in power and has way to
low of gear ratios. It is fairly full efficient as long as you drive it normally or you can
burn a ton of fuel and have a little fun:) Aug 01, 2010

My cars a fun little thing it gets me around, and gets really good gas millage, about 350 to the tank pretty cool right? also its some what of fun car but only if you get it as a stick shift other wise what the hell is the point?May 16, 2010

Escorts are the best! They're super durable, I've hit quite a few things with it, and it's still goin. Can handle rough terrain. Gets great mileage. This thing handles like a champ, despite it's appearance. And the engines keep. on. going.Nov 27, 2009

Great car to drive, little sluggish as this was a naturally aspirated 1.8 D. Build quality was good, and at the time was a nice place to be in; black cloth interior, black door panels and dash. Externally was white, spoiler nice all round sporty body kit. Had to get rid as it got written off!Sep 04, 2009

Not the fastest car i have ever owned but it was great on
gas, got pretty peppy when i put in the exedy Stg 1 clutch,
easy to maintain but no aftermarket mods made for it, i was at

LHD 1993 Escort RS Cosworth ex. Bastos Group "N" rally car. Being turned into a street legal Road Race, auto slalom, Rally car. Bought as a bare shell. LOTS of work, time, effort, but it's a piece of racing history, & it's going to be a rush to drive.Jul 24, 2009

A good work horse, at the time the interior was smart and
everything worked apart from some issues with the contact
plates on the the boot lid for the electrics such as rear heater
and wiper. 1.6 EFi engine was suitable for the need and it was

Performance: handling and braking are good acceleration os ok.
Build Quality: hasnt needed repairs is a while... just the normal maitinance.
Appearance: exterior- minor hail damage, paint is coming off at the bumper and behind the tires interior... smoker owned it before me... but i completely got the smell out, but there is a small cigarett hole in the back seat
Cost of Ownership: 25 city/ 33 hwy... great gas mileage, regular maitenance needed.
Fun factor: 12 inch 800 W subwoofer with 600 W amp and 500 W wire. blue led lights on dash Jun 06, 2009

My Escort was an attractive little wagon which I drove for nine years with confidence. It was roomy enough for all my keyboards and equipment and pretty thrifty to operate. I would possibly still have it if someone hadn't turned left in front of me causing an accident with significant damage. Apr 14, 2008

Like most cars in the late 80's and 90's it wasn't anything nice to look at but it worked well as a wagon. The small engine was more apparent when hauling heavy things or lots of people. The clutch survived 3 learning drivers and 11 years before giving in.Mar 31, 2008

spraypainted black, patchwork parts all over the place, but it runs. put little money into it, even when it was only Joe's car, and it just refuses to die. probably won't ever sell it unless it finally takes a crap. gets 26ish mpg all day, and is light enough that you don't miss having HP. great beater/commuter carMar 12, 2008

Another profitable Escort for me, I bought this with the £200 I got for my F reg, and sold for £300 after 9 months of trouble free ownership.
As a means of getting from A to B as cheaply as possible then, this is the perfect car.However, as a driver's car, it was hopeless. Underbraked, underpowered, and with a chassis that was considerably worse than the MK4 it replaced (you could feel the shell flexing on some roundabouts where it was stiffly sprung and had a solid beam rear axle). But no complaints for a cheap second car, and if you need a cheap car that will get you from A to B without £, then this is what you need.Jan 23, 2008
