Love my car. Lot of engine work carried out, complete rebuild with stage 3 head,
roller rockers, twin 40's. Only ever needed 3 bits of welding, rear spare wheel well,
drivers side sill, and drivers floor at front. Front AP 4pot brakes with EBC drilled
and grooved discs. Alloy engine mounts from rs2000 mk2. 13x8 compomotive ML'sNov 28, 2011

Respected Rally car, very tunable, great fun to drive, rear wheel drive, seems very dated inside (nowadays of course), not fantastic build quality or reliability, but relatively cheap, however will always remain a classic for those that know and enjoy cars.
Still a quick car even these days, and with the noise of the engine, and late 70's construction feels even faster than it actually is,
As with most classics expect to spend time and money unless you can afford a well restored example, trust me i know...
Custom interior gets recaro's with fishnet headrests and is the one to have in my opinion, and don't forget to lower the rear by 1.75in and front by 1.25, either that or put some heavy rocks in the boot as i did, less power to weight but corners much faster.
Recommended as a track or rally car for people starting out, but you probably need to be an enthusiast to keep one for daily or Sunday driving.
And don't forget it wears a Ford RS badge (Rallye Sport) may not mean alot to everyone, however joins some very special cars that wear the same iconic badge.

Good acceleration, reasonable braking and handling. For a car that was almost 20 years old it went quite well until glen owned it. :) It was a 2 door coupe, cheap to run only got serviced once a year. Just an Oil change. Very high on the fun factor.Dec 18, 2008

I loved my MkII Escort. I had 2 in my time. First one was my very first car and learned just about everything I know building and rebuilding these cars. My second one was a second hand Clubman rally car and I bought it and stripped it and rebuilt the engine and body. They were cheap and easy to fix. Not too expensive to get HP from, but the right combo and you have a pretty fast little car.Sep 08, 2008

Despite the fact it needs some more work on it its still a great car. Once the new radiator is in it should be much better. May 07, 2008

Everyone over 35's owned a Mk2 Escort, right? Well maybe not, but I challenge anyone to find something wrong with these cars. And those that DO, I would wager are lads. And those lads... 50% changed whatever was wrong. Don't like the ol' 1300 Crossflow? Stick a 2.0 Pinto in it! Poor power? Kent high lift cam for £30!
The Escort, for me, was the ultimate in car fun. Not as pretty or charming as the Chevette, but for balls-out DIY speed mayhem there has never been a better car for my generation.Mar 19, 2008

Cheap to buy, cheap to run, easy to fix, rear wheel drive, in the dry corners like a grayhound, in the wet spins like a gyroscope. Unfortuately they are rot boxes but they are really easy to work with.
Can leave any hot hatch at the lights if not on the straights.Nov 19, 2007
