What should I look for when buying a used Mazda MAZDA3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The 2026 Mazda3 sedan with the base engine is the most efficient version at 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined (8.8 city, 6.6 highway), while adding AWD increases the combined rating to 8.1 L/100 km and the Turbo engine bumps the figure to 8.8 L/100 km combined.

Which Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 offers these trims:

• GX: The entry trim uses the 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, plus standard front-wheel drive; it suits buyers who want the Mazda3’s core style and driving character at the lowest price.
• GS: Adds the option of all-wheel drive, making it a smart pick if you want extra traction and a broader equipment path without moving to the top trim.
• GT: Brings the turbo engine option, plus available all-wheel drive, and adds adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, reverse automatic braking, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system; this is the best-value choice if you want the most complete Mazda3 experience.

What Mazda MAZDA3 do most buyers choose?

The Mazda MAZDA3 years with the most listings are 2018, 2024, and 2017.

These higher-volume years tend to attract more shoppers because they offer a strong mix of availability, familiar equipment, and pricing that keeps them easy to compare. When supply is deeper, you also have a better chance of finding the colour, body style, and trim combination you want.

What is the Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

Most Mazda MAZDA3 model years are showing lower prices than a year ago, which is good news if you are shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in older and mid-cycle years, while the newest models are also easing down, but by a smaller amount.

The 2025, 2015, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Mazda MAZDA3 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −3.54% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.39%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 33% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 33.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $15,290 CAD. The Mazda MAZDA3 offers a stylish, driver-focused character that makes it feel more rewarding than many mainstream compact cars.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The standard engine on all three trims in Canada—GX, GS, and GT—is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that produces 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the Turbo engine increases output to 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular unleaded fuel and 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque with premium.
• Tech: Higher-trimmed models get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad.
• Safety: The top GT model adds adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, and reverse automatic braking.
• Starting price: The 2026 Mazda3 sedan has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $28,346 for the base GX trim.

If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
