What should I look for when buying a used Lexus RX?
Across all model years, at 73.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.4% |
| 2025 | 94.1% |
| 2024 | 91.8% |
| 2023 | 89% |
| 2022 | 83.4% |
| 2021 | 75.2% |
| 2020 | 68.3% |
| 2019 | 66% |
| 2018 | 60.6% |
| 2017 | 58.6% |
| 2016 | 55% |
| 2015 | 52.2% |
| 2014 | 49.6% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 3.0
- Infotainment: a 9.8-inch touchscreen in lower trims and a much larger 14-inch display for other models, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: 25 mpg in combined city and highway driving for the FWD model, 24 mpg for the AWD model, 36 mpg combined for the hybrid, and 35 mpg combined for the plug-in hybrid
Which Lexus RX trim should I buy?
The 2024 Lexus RX offers these trims:
- RX 350: the base model starts with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder, an eight-speed automatic, and available FWD or AWD, making it the entry point if you want the core RX comfort and refinement.
- RX 350h: the hybrid adds standard AWD and 36 mpg combined, making it the best-value trim for many buyers who want stronger efficiency.
- RX 500h F Sport Performance: this trim adds the most power in the lineup, with 366 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, plus a six-speed automatic and AWD.
- RX 450h+: the plug-in hybrid adds an 18.1-kWh battery pack, 304 hp, and up to 37 miles of electric-only range for buyers with regular charging access.
What Lexus RX do most buyers choose?
The Lexus RX years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2022.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 3,100 | 33.5% |
| 2024 | 3,056 | 33.9% |
| 2022 | 2,276 | 33.7% |
| 2025 | 2,163 | 34.6% |
| 2021 | 1,502 | 34.7% |
| 2016 | 1,451 | 33.2% |
Higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more listings to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, mileage, and price. They also often sit near the center of the model’s used-market sweet spot, where newer features and broader availability overlap.
What is the Lexus RX's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $49,605 | −6.72% |
| 2023 | $46,196 | −5.94% |
| 2022 | $39,570 | −3.81% |
| 2025 | $53,344 | −2.69% |
| 2021 | $35,754 | −2.39% |
| 2014 | $15,467 | −2.25% |
| 2017 | $24,171 | −1.82% |
| 2019 | $29,089 | −1.63% |
| 2016 | $22,363 | −1.41% |
| 2015 | $17,388 | −1.34% |
| 2018 | $26,870 | −1.15% |
| 2020 | $33,361 | −0.33% |
The table shows mostly negative year-over-year movement, which is helpful if you're shopping used because prices have generally eased across the lineup. The declines are larger in some newer years and much smaller in others, so the model’s pricing is moving down at different speeds depending on the year. The 2020 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2020, 2018, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Love our 2020 Lexus RX — it’s smooth, quiet, and feels genuinely luxurious. The interior quality and comfort are exactly what I hoped for. My only complaints are the subscription requirements for remote start and navigation, and I wish the rear seats had warmers. Overall, excellent value, great reliability, and a car that feels like it will last.

Value is everything with the Lexus RX350. This model year of 2009 was the last year of the 2nd generation ( 2004-2009) of this model. The engine is a 3.5 liter V-6 bullet proof engine 2GR-FE model that if properly taken care of ( oil & oil filter change every 5K miles-ideally) , will last at least 300k miles. This is the car that really does check all the boxes. A 2009 is at an age where mileage is still acceptable between 100-160k, which is just fine for a Toyota-Lexus. At a price of between $7,999-10,500 (at least here in SoCal) it’s like getting a nearly new car for the price of just an ok car. All the features, accessories and quiet - luxury ride. And with comfort (95% of this model have leather and moonroof) its a no brainer. Airbags all over the place. Lots of cargo room in back ( find one with the cargo cover !) . If you can find a one owner, dealership maintained car that’s the best! ! Remember, the demographic that bought these babies new could afford to take care of these with the normal maintenance. These first owners were also older so they didn’t drive these hard. Except for bad accidents you really don’t see these in junkyards so that says a lot. If you don’t live in the rust belt of snow and salt on the roads this car just keeps going and going. Absolutely the best car for a student! The RX is the “Honda Civic” of the Lexus world which means you see them everywhere, for a reason. This model of car has been sold since 1998 ! So when price, quality, dependability,, safety, usefulness , and just plain looks all come together, it’s a no brainer of a great car. The ONLY, negative is fuel mileage with 18mpg city and 23 freeway.

Extremely clean interior with the exception of one tear in the drivers seat, made me want to buy this vehicle. The interior felt new. No stains, not even dirt. The exterior had been repainted at one point, albeit well done. The listing says no accidents but it had a minor cosmetic rear impact in 2014 (no big deal) and unfortunately also had a tree branch fall on the sunroof shattering the glass and, despite being repaired, leaving it inoperable at least consistently. When I tested the sunroof, it wouldn't close because broken glass particles were in the way. Those were cleaned up and the dealer says it’s functioning now, but you take on some risk. Not the end of the world. If I purchased this vehicle, I’d pull the fuse that operates the sunroof and leave it in the closed position. It drove smooth, drivetrain felt great, smooth transmission, alignment, breaks, suspension.

Why it stands out
The redesigned 2023 Lexus RX stays true to the formula that made the nameplate so popular, but it adds enough dynamic and technological upgrades to feel meaningfully fresh. Lexus is clearly not taking big risks here, yet the result is a two-row midsize luxury SUV that aims to balance refinement, style, and everyday usability. It also comes across as a strong fit for buyers who want a comfortable, premium-feeling crossover with impressive technology.
That said, the 2023 RX is not without compromises. Its standard suspension can produce a woozy ride on imperfect pavement, cargo space is limited, and the head-up display integration is poor. Even so, the overall package still lands in a sweet spot for shoppers who value a polished interior and a calm, upscale driving experience more than maximum practicality.
