What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and Active Driving Assist
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel economy of 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined (6.1 city, 6.7 highway)

Which Jeep Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee offers these trims:

• Base model: standard all-wheel drive, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and the Cherokee’s hybrid powertrain make this the best-value trim for shoppers who want the core package.
• Laredo: adds more equipment while keeping the same standard hybrid and AWD setup, making it a sensible step up for buyers who want more features without moving to the top of the range.
• Limited: adds leatherette seats, wireless device charging, and more convenience features, making it a strong choice if you want a more upscale cabin.
• Overland: adds 20-inch wheels, traffic sign recognition, a surround-view camera system, and the most premium interior presentation in the lineup.

What Jeep Cherokee do most buyers choose?

The Jeep Cherokee years with the most listings are 2020, 2019, and 2018.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they offer a strong mix of availability, familiar equipment, and pricing that still leaves room for value-conscious shoppers. More listings also give you a better chance of finding the trim, colour, and condition you want.

What is the Jeep Cherokee's resale value?

Most Cherokee model years are showing double-digit price declines, which creates opportunities for used buyers looking for stronger value. The newer years in the table are also falling sharply, so recent-model shoppers may find more room to negotiate than they would expect. The smallest changes are still meaningful, but they are less severe than the steepest drops shown here.

The 2014, 2018, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Jeep Cherokee safe?

• 2026: 7/10

Jeep offers standard driver assistance features including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and Active Driving Assist.

For the safest used buy, the 2026 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Jeep Cherokee now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2023 model is at −16.44% versus a year ago, and the 2022 model is at −17.22%.
• Deal availability: The 2022 model has 34% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $21,115 CAD. The Jeep Cherokee offers a distinctive blend of comfort, useful packaging, and everyday versatility. Consider waiting if:
• Powertrain/efficiency: The new Cherokee’s specs don’t seem very Jeep-like at first. The only powertrain available at launch consists of a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine connected to a two-motor hybrid system with a planetary gearset taking the place of a conventional transmission, similar to what Subaru and Toyota use. It’s good for 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque, splitting the difference between the Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4 hybrids in horsepower.
• Tech: The 2026 Cherokee comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, still running the same Uconnect 5 infotainment system as the outgoing Cherokee from the 2023 model year. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain standard along with a pair of USB-C ports for both the front and rear rows on all but the base model.
• Safety: Jeep offers similar standard driver assistance features to other mainstream brands, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. Active Driving Assist, which pairs automated lane centring with adaptive cruise control for highway driving, is also standard.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $42,390 CAD for the base model.

If you're buying used today, the 2020 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
