What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and Active Driving Assist.
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel economy of 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined (6.1 city, 6.7 highway).

Which Jeep Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee offers these trims:

• Base: standard all-wheel drive, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and the hybrid powertrain; best if you want the entry point with the core Cherokee experience.
• Laredo: adds more equipment over the base model and starts at $47,390, making it the best-value step-up for many shoppers.

What Jeep Cherokee do most buyers choose?

The Jeep Cherokee years with the most listings are 2020, 2019, and 2018.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they offer a strong mix of availability, familiar equipment, and pricing that keeps them within reach for many used-SUV shoppers. More listings also give you a better chance of finding the right trim, colour, and condition.

What is the Jeep Cherokee's resale value?

Most Cherokee model years are down by double digits year over year, which is good news if you're shopping used and want more value for your money. The newer model years show some of the largest drops, while the older years are falling too, but by slightly smaller amounts. The 2014, 2018, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Jeep Cherokee safe?

• 2026: 7/10

Jeep offers standard driver assistance features including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and Active Driving Assist.

Should I buy a used Jeep Cherokee now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2023 model is at −16.38% versus a year ago, and the 2022 model is at −17.16%.
• Deal availability: The 2022 model has 33.4% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $21,093 CAD. The Jeep Cherokee offers a distinctive blend of style, useful packaging, and everyday versatility. Consider waiting if:
• Powertrain/efficiency: The new Cherokee’s specs don’t seem very Jeep-like at first. The only powertrain available at launch consists of a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine connected to a two-motor hybrid system with a planetary gearset taking the place of a conventional transmission, similar to what Subaru and Toyota use. It’s good for 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: The 2026 Cherokee comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, still running the same Uconnect 5 infotainment system as the outgoing Cherokee from the 2023 model year.
• Safety: Jeep offers similar standard driver assistance features to other mainstream brands, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $42,390 for the base model.

If you're buying used today, the 2020 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
