Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera on the Denali Ultimate.
• Infotainment: a 13.4-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless device charging pad, Google built-in, 12-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, and split-screen navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: During long highway stints the Duramax diesel dipped as low as 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres. At suburban/city speeds, however, we routinely saw economy ratings crest well beyond 20 L/100 km.

• Denali: The luxury-focused trim for buyers who want a more premium cabin and upscale features.
• AT4X: The upgraded off-road trim, combining the AT4’s rugged focus with additional equipment.
• Denali Ultimate: The top trim, with nearly every available option, a six-passenger Crew Cab, and the most premium presentation in the lineup.

What GMC Sierra 2500HD do most buyers choose?

The GMC Sierra 2500HD years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

These higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they offer a wider mix of trims, prices, and availability. When inventory is deeper, it is usually easier to compare condition, equipment, and deal quality across multiple listings.

What is the GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

Most model years in the table are down year over year, which creates more room for used buyers to find value. A couple of older years are moving in the opposite direction, showing that some versions are still commanding stronger prices. Overall, the pattern favours shoppers looking for recent-model bargains, especially where the declines are steepest.

The 2016, 2020, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used GMC Sierra 2500HD now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −12.01% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −6.71%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 31.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.1%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $77,722 CAD. The GMC Sierra 2500HD offers a more upscale cabin and a polished heavy-duty character that many buyers appreciate.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Unlike the standard Sierra HD trims that offer a 6.6-litre V8 gas engine as standard, the sole engine found under the helipad-size hood of the HD Denali Ultimate is a 6.6-litre Duramax turbocharged diesel V8. It produces power specs of 470 horsepower and, wait for it, a staggering 975 lb-ft of torque.
• Tech: This includes a 15-inch multi-colour head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless device charging pad, Google built-in, 12-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, and split-screen navigation.
• Safety: The GMC Sierra HD comes standard with both of these features, along with others such as pedestrian detection and lane departure warning. Front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera are optional features, and all are standard on the Denali Ultimate.
• Starting price: The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali Ultimate heavy-duty pickup truck has a base price of $125,630.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
