Is the 2026 Honda Civic a good car?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns an expert rating of 6.8/10.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

You get a compact car that has aged with remarkable grace, offers sedans and hatchbacks, and still delivers the kind of driving enjoyment that helps it stand out in the class. The cabin also benefits from premium interior materials, which adds to its appeal.

The trade-offs are clear: it can be noisy at speed, and its technology is outdated. It is also a premium-priced choice, so it may not be the best fit if value is your top priority.

Even so, 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic reliable?

The 2026 Honda Civic is described as dependable, and Honda ranks high in reliability. It is also presented as the kind of car you can buy, drive for a long time, and spend very little to keep running.

Its powertrain is straightforward, with the base 2.0-litre four-cylinder paired to a CVT, and the hybrid versions are called out for impressive efficiency. That simplicity, along with Honda’s reputation, supports the Civic’s long-term ownership case.

Honda also frames the Civic as a model that just works for years and years, which is exactly the kind of language used for buyers who want low-drama ownership. For used shoppers, the main long-term risk is paying more up front than some rivals while still living with road noise and older tech.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic lineup spans sedans and hatchbacks, gas-only and hybrid powertrains, and performance variants such as the Si and Type R. The Civic Sport is relatively basic, and its retro infotainment system is a weak point, so base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to equipment and cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: The Civic LX and Civic Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The hybrids use Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain and are described as offering remarkable power and impressive efficiency.
• Safety package: Every 2026 Civic gets Honda Sensing, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard, while the Sport Touring Hybrid adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard but require a cable connection. The Si and Sport Touring Hybrid upgrade to 10.2-inch instrumentation and a 9-inch infotainment display, plus Google built-in, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The Civic’s Natural Resources Canada fuel economy ratings are 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 6.0 on the highway, and 6.9 combined. On the testing loop, it returned 7.4 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Civic’s core strengths at the lowest price, but you should expect the most basic equipment and the standard 7-inch tech setup.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished look and feel without changing the Civic’s fundamental formula. It is still relatively basic, but it captures much of the Civic’s appeal.
• Sport Hybrid: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain’s stronger efficiency and more impressive power, and you are willing to pay more for it.
• Sport Touring Hybrid: This is the most feature-rich choice, with larger displays, Google built-in, wireless smartphone charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the extra parking-sensor and low-speed automatic braking package.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and the Sport Touring Hybrid gets the extra parking-sensor and low-speed automatic braking equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 313 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.04% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,511 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $32,520 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,247 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Civic has softened a bit in the used market, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, the model still has a strong reputation and good value retention, but the current pricing shows that premium compact cars can still move with market conditions. If you buy well now, you should still have a solid ownership story when it comes time to sell.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic safe?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns five-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with four-star frontal impact and five-star side impact and rollover resistance ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard.

The main caveat is that the lane-centring assist can feel intrusive without adaptive cruise control, and the adaptive cruise itself can brake too hard and too long in heavier traffic. The Sport Touring Hybrid also gets front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.04% compared with last year.
• It carries over unchanged after the 2025 update, so you get the latest version of this generation with strong driving enjoyment and premium interior materials.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,516 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $32,520 CAD average.
• It offers a clearer path to an affordable sedan or hatchback, with a strong balance of everyday usability and driver involvement.

The bottom line: Buy the 2026 if you want the current Civic experience and are comfortable paying a premium for it. If price matters more than having the newest model year, the 2025 is the smarter value play.
