Why it stands out

The 2026 GMC Sierra 2500HD stands out for offering a heavy-duty pickup with a more upscale bent than many rivals. In Canada, it is available in Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels, and the range stretches from work-focused versions to luxury-oriented models. The AT4 trims add off-road hardware and accessories such as skid plates, off-road suspension upgrades, and a more robust transfer case, while the Denali trims bring luxury cabin features. Buyers looking for a premium sound system, leather seats, or a surround-view monitor will find those features here, although these trucks had very high MSRPs when new.

Equipment is a strong point, with Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Wi-Fi hotspot accessibility through the GMC infotainment system. Available features include remote keyless entry and rear-seat reminders, and more upscale models can add a Bose premium audio system, power-adjustable front seats, chrome grille trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, and power-folding tailgate options. The truck comes with a 6.6-litre V8 gas engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and it is also available with a 6.6-litre Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission from Allison. Rear- and four-wheel drive are available, and buyers can choose Regular Cab, Crew Cab, or Double Cab body styles with 7' or 8'2" cargo beds.

Like other heavy-duty trucks, the 2026 GMC Sierra 2500HD is not without drawbacks. The source notes problems including illuminated check engine lights caused by diesel particulate filters or emissions sensors, sluggish infotainment responses, rough or delayed shifts, electrical system glitches, flaws in the MultiPro tailgate that can leave it unlatched while driving, and faulty trailer brake controllers. Even so, its broad trim range, strong feature content, and mix of work-ready and premium configurations make it a distinctive choice for buyers who want a heavy-duty truck that can be tailored well beyond the basics.
