How much does the 2025 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 17.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 154 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender a good car?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender earns an 7.5/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

It is built to go almost anywhere while still feeling refined enough for everyday use, and the lineup gives you a wide spread of body styles and powertrains. That makes it appealing if you want a rugged SUV that still works as a daily driver.

The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: fuel economy is poor, handling on pavement is also poor, and rear visibility is limited.

With 31.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market offers some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender reliable?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender is presented as a capable, refined SUV with a broad lineup and a four-year/80,000-kilometre warranty and roadside assistance plan.

Its powertrain is described as robust and smooth, with the inline-six delivering power and refinement while still aligning with low fuel-economy expectations. The off-road hardware and technology are also framed as confidence-inspiring and highly capable.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Defender’s premium complexity and poor fuel economy can make it costlier to live with over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Land Rover Defender?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 110 is the sweet spot in the lineup, while the 90 looks stubby and the 130 carries more visual mass over its rear wheels. The X trim adds black exterior elements, upgraded interior materials, and Land Rover’s off-roading technology as standard equipment.
• Powertrain: You can choose from turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, plus a turbocharged or supercharged V8. The tested turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild hybrid makes 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, with smooth acceleration and a claimed 6.6-second sprint to 100 km/h in the 130 X.
• Safety package: Driver aids include automatic high beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. Lane-centring assist is available when using adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The Pivi Pro system uses an 11.4-inch touchscreen, paired with a configurable digital driver display. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and connected services are included, and the system also supports a head-up display, a ClearSight digital rearview mirror, and a surround-view camera system with a 3D view setting.
• Fuel efficiency: The tested six-cylinder returned 14.5 L/100 km on the test loop, versus a Natural Resources Canada estimate of 13.0 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2025 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender is offered in 4 trim levels: 90, 110, 130, and OCTA.

Here's the short version:

• 90: This is the short two-door Defender, so it suits you if you want the most compact and distinctive body style.
• 110: This is the best-value choice for most buyers because it is the sweet spot in the lineup and balances everyday usability with the Defender’s rugged character.
• 130: Choose this if you want the extended four-door body style and more space-oriented packaging.
• OCTA: This is the high-performance standout in the lineup and is the one to consider if you want the most extreme version.

The Defender’s safety and driver-assistance features are broadly well equipped, with lane-centring assist available when using adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Land Rover Defender?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 154 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $83,444 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $84,041 CAD sits slightly below last year's $101,440 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you plan to resell later, the Defender’s broad appeal and distinctive character should help, but premium SUVs can still be sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment. The current pricing trend also means you may not recover as much as a previous owner paid at the peak.

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender safe?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender earns an 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Land Rover equips the Defender with several driver aids, and they work in a refined manner with few reasons to complain about them. Highlights include automatic high beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.

A Driver Assistance Mode menu lets you choose High, Low, or Custom settings, and deeper adjustments are available through the vehicle settings. Lane keep assist is decisive, and adaptive cruise with lane-centring assist operates transparently in normal use.

Should I buy a 2025 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.15% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds the high-performance OCTA and keeps the Defender’s rugged-but-refined character intact.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $71,633 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $84,041 CAD average.
• It is a rugged-yet-refined choice with genuine off-road ability and a strong engine selection.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the latest lineup and the strongest mix of capability, refinement, and market softness. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the smarter value play and still delivers the Defender’s core strengths.
